Spotify volume control

Spotify volume control

Hi. silly question maybe.

I have spotify premium and run it through a chromecast-audio that is connected over toslink to a cambridge audio dac magic plus which leads to a michaelson & austin tva-1 and attached klipsch heresy III´s and a klipsch sub.

i use the cambridge DAC as digital preamlifier which modifies volume without bit reduction (if i hear over turntable i switch through a Dodocus Ubox over to an analogue preamp with attached MC stage instead the cambridge)

question is as follows: on the spotify side i changed quality to extreme (320kbps) and turned off song volume normalization.

now as you know, when you control spotify from your android or ios device and the push to the streaming device was initialized (chromecast-audio in my case) you are still being able to also control the volume of the streaming device remotely through the spotify app.

i may be blind but i cant find how this works. does this has the same drawbacks (dynamic range reduction) as the volume normalization ? is the volume reduction performed in the chromecast ? what exactly is the quality drawback to be expected when messing around with it.

i ask because i have a heated discussion with my girlfriend which doesnt want stopping messing with the in-app volume control. unfortunately the when using the dac magic as digital preamp its bit unconfortable as there is no remote control, so you actually have to get up to change volume.

Hi,

the sound quality settings in the Spotify app doesn't apply to Connect and Cast devices. That's why they're greyed out when playing remotely (except on the desktop app, but that's just an oversight).

The remote volume control only transmits the desired volume level. The implementation of volume is left to the partner, in this case Google.

thank you very much for the clarification.
