When I use Hands Free Link, I can't shuffle

When I use Hands Free Link, I can't shuffle

In my brand new Honda CR-V, I can play songs from my local collection over bluetooth. Spotify thinks that this is a "Hands Free connection".

I have > 10,000 songs on my Samsung Galaxy Note 20, and it's nice to be able to listen to them, but currently we are going through all of the tracks that start with:
01 This song

01 That song

And it's kind of annoying. I can shuffle when listening on the phone itself. (And I was able to shuffle with Pandora, which is also built-in to the head unit, but I wanted to go with Spotify's algorithms & selection). But even though the shuffle icon is green, it doesn't work.

Is there some way to enable this, or work around it?

Hey @dclaar,

Thank you for posting in the Community! We've moved your post to a relevant Help Board where it fits better.

We understand that you're experiencing issues with using the Shuffle function on your playlists while using the app in a "Hands Free" connection with your car stereo. Does this occur for all playlists or just for a specific one? As we were not able to replicate the situation on our end, could we ask you for a short video recording, so we can take a closer look and advise you better.

Also, it would be nice if you share a bit more details about your devices. We'd like to know the Android version on your Galaxy device, as well as the exact version of the Spotify app that you're currently using.

We'll be keeping an eye out for your reply, thanks!

Spotify: 8.7.10.1262

Android: 12

Happens on at least 2 play lists.

Video is small, but you can see that all of the songs start with 01.

Hey @dclaar,

Thanks for the reply.

We've noticed on the video that you skip tracks using the head unit in your car. Could you try opening the queue in Spotify on your mobile phone, then skipping to the next track from the head unit to see if the next song in the queue would play? Also, does the shuffle work correctly when you skip tracks from the mobile app directly?

If possible, try connecting your car's stereo to another mobile device (a friend's or a relative's will do) to see if the issue with shuffle is also present there.

Keep us posted.

Cheers!

OK, I figured it out. The issue is that the Honda head unit puts "01" in front of every song--in Bluetooth. If I connect with Android Auto, then it doesn't show that.

So, "Born to Lose", by Jerry Lee Lewis, is "08-Born to Lose.mp3" on my computer and on the internal storage of my phone. When playing on the phone, it shows "Born to Lose" (no number). But over Bluetooth, "01 Born to Lose"!
