Why does Spotify Connect allow to stream outside my wifi?

Why does Spotify Connect allow to stream outside my wifi?

I have a Bluesound Powernode with Spotify Connect. I was experiencing random music playback without me starting it. I found out that my daughter was able to see our device under the available devices list although she was at her home. She had unintentionally selected our device and wondered why she didn't hear anything. Although she lives in the same city she was outside our wifi range and we verified this later. It went even crazier. She was listening Spotify via her headphones and I was able to see the playback from my device an pause/resume her playback.

Can anyone help with this? I definitely do not want that someone who has been connected to our device via Connect is able to playback outside our wifi.

Hey there,

Thank you for reaching out here in the Community. No worries - help's here 🙂

First off, we'd recommend that you switch on "Show local devices only" option in the Spotify mobile app. You can find it under Settings > Devices. This lets the app see only the devices that currently on your Wi-Fi network.

It's also a good idea to toggle off the option for group session on the speaker. Here you can find more about how to do this.

Keep in mind that both you and daughter need to do the aforementioned.

If you still experience this - let us know! We'll be happy to assist you with this matter.
