How do I upgrade from Premium to family premium from a free account with Rogers?

I am wondering how I can upgrade from my Premium account to a family account. I currently have a free account through my phone company Rogers and I want to upgrade to the family but they told me i am not able to do this. Will I have to get a whole new spotify account?

You'll have to cancel your Spotify Premium subscription through Rogers first and wait for it to end. After it has ended, you'll be able to subscribe to Premium for Family at https://spotify.com/family.

This means that I lose the value of the premium account that I am getting at no additional cost through Rogers.  Why should I give that up?  I have negotiated free Premium from Rogers for as long as I have a Rogers account.  So why can I not just pay the $5 more per month for the family premium?
