Charging Non-Student Premium?!

Charging Non-Student Premium?!

Late last year, I was notified that my Student Premium was about to run out, and I was due an update otherwise I could not continue to recieve the discount. So naturally I obliged, and for the next payment Spotify had taken the correct £4.99 out of my account. I thought that was that.

However, I was looking back to assess my finances and every month since February, I have been charged full price! I just updated my Student subscription again, but why the heck did it change in the first place after I had JUST renewed it.

I'm absolutely furious that they've overcharged me, especially when I underwent the correct measure to ensure that this wouldn't occur. What gives? Is it possible for me to get refunded?

Hi @theteej. Sorry to hear that you've run into this spot of trouble. As a fellow student I can understand the importance of the discount, and hopefully we should be able to resolve this without any further issues.

When you update your student information last year, did you receive a confirmation email from Spotify stating that you had successfully enrolled into the discount? If you did not, then the most likely explanation is that, for whatever reason, the process was never successfully completed, and your discount lapsed back into a normal subscription because the system didn't think you were a student anymore. In this instance, I would suggest going back and re-enrolling as a student, and taking car to ensure that you get that confirmation email. Just visit this page to re-enroll.

If, however, you did get a confirmation email, then it appears there may be another issue at play. If this is the case, please let me know and I can do some more research for you. Cheers!

Hi,

No, I did not receive a confirmation email, but I didn't receive one in the
past few days either and it has updated my account so I'm doubtful that I
should have received one in the first place.

My biggest gripe is that it DID already update my account. The email said
my subscription would end in a few days, and almost 30 days later it
charged me student price so they did recognise that I was still a student.
It then reversed for no apparent reason. I'm sorry, but I'm not seeing any
way that I was at fault with the information I've been presented. This is
unacceptable to me.

Hey @theteej. In this case I'm going to suggest you reach out to support so they can take a deeper look at this.To contact support, please fill out the online contact form. If, for whatever reason you would prefer not to, or you cannot use the form, support can also be reached on twitter by reaching out to @SpotifyCares, or on Facebook by sending a message to the Spotify Cares Facebook page.

Please be aware that responses may take anywhere from 24-48 hours depending on the volume of tickets they are currently handling. Best of luck!
