Question Of The Week : What's one positive and memorable incident you've had on the internet?

Hello folks โค๏ธ

It's once again the end to another week ๐Ÿ’†, but with it comes a brand new QOTW .

๐ŸŒŸCan you share a real nice moment or incident  you've had on the internet?๐ŸŒŸ

It could be anything heartwarming really: a time a stranger was really helpful or really nice to you or when you took part in something good.

With all that's happening, there's never been a better time to appreciate doing good/happiness.

So feel free and let's hear it for wholesomeness supremacy ๐Ÿ’š

Great question, @Taylith!

For me, one positive and memorable occasion on the internet that comes to mind is from 2019, soon after I had started posting in the Playlist Exchange and Music Chat boards of the Spotify Community (which are now divided into separate, newer boards in the Chat area).

@Soundofus had started a thread in Music Chat, inviting Community members to share what they thought were the best songs released in 2019 thus far, and I shared a song by Pelican that had been released earlier that year. Another Community member then posted in the thread, complimenting me on my Community username as well as sharing a song from 2019 by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. Since this Community member had โ€œPrimusโ€ in their username, I complimented them on their username, too, and asked if theyโ€™d listened to Oysterhead, a music project including Trey Anastasio from Phish and Les Claypool from Primus. They hadnโ€™t listened to this collaboration before, and were curious to check it out. Since some of our conversation was removed from the thread (probably for going off-topicโ€”apologies), we continued the conversation via PM, briefly chatting about Oysterhead as well as concerts weโ€™ve been to.

I thought this was a nice online interaction, as I was glad to have connected with another music fanโ€”something that didnโ€™t often happen in my everyday life at the time; and it inspired me to continue posting on the Spotify Community.

Cheers!

Hey there,

One question under one of the photographs I took during hiking through the Rhodopa mountains was the turning point in my life.

"Did you take this picture?"

Unknown to me, I've just met my future wife.

I don't know if this also counts as an incident ๐Ÿ˜

Thank you for the question, @Taylith.

Just as @AdamDamon mentioned in his answer, the conversation soon started revolving around common music taste and we enjoyed using the collaborative playlist options and the offshoots created in our Discover Weekly playlists, because our music taste was not that similar at that time. But with time it continues to blend nicely.

Cheers!

That's really nice @AdamDamon

One of my favorite things to do is discovering new good music and the internet homies have never failed me.

I've come to be friends with people whose taste lines up with mine very well,I was pleased when I got a 94% taste similarity on a blend with a guy I'd been talking to just for days ๐Ÿ˜‚โค๏ธ.

Thanks for sharing ๐ŸŒŸ

To me your story is perfect for this post @Dian ๐Ÿ’š

One of the most beautiful things that can happen to a person on the internet is to find their other/better half ๐Ÿ’†โค๏ธ.

I love love so yes, thanks for sharing ๐Ÿ’š

Hello there @AmbitiaCristi

Thanks for engaging with us.

We do, however, need to see the wholesome part to that.

Did you get assistance from someone on the internet or something like that?

It was how I met one of my best friends 10 years ago - today I consider her to be like a sister.

It was during March (I believe) of 2012, and I was playing an online FPS game named Crossfire. During that time I was very hesitant to have contact with strangers online, but I wanted to have some fun and I decided to join the TeamSpeak server of a group that played this game.

My 12-year-old self was absolutely obsessed with Demi Lovato (I'm still a big fan today, but back then, I was completely crazy about her) and I used one of her pictures as my profile picture on TeamSpeak because I didn't feel comfortable exposing myself, especially because I was very young.

So when I was playing, I noticed that another girl also joined the TS server to play with the guys there, and as soon as she saw my profile picture she freaked out, saying she was a big fan of Demi too. Music has always been super important in my life, and at that age, considering that I didn't have many friends, it was crazy to find someone that was a fan like me. After that moment, we immediately became very close and spoke to each other and played together every day.

She became someone super especial to me, and we've been through a lot of good and bad in our lives and always stood up for each other. Around 4 years later I got the chance to meet her in person, and this year is the 10th of our friendship.

It's just crazy how things happen, it all begun in a random voice chat of an online game. :')

From 2007 - 2009 before I started using Spotify in 2011, I would hang out in the "YouTube Streams" chat room that I made.

I never owned an iPod or music player before I started using Spotify. I got my first iPhone in 2009 but I never really used it for music besides the YouTube app. Growing up, most of the time I would listen to the radio when I wanted to listen to music. When I was on the computer, I started with LimeWire and then I ended up listening to music on YouTube in 2007 until I started using Spotify in 2011.

If I remember correctly I started using the Internet for the first time around 2005 - 2006. In 2007 shortly after I joined YouTube, I noticed this experimental new feature called "Streams". This "Streams" feature allowed you to make your own chat room and other people could join the chat room. In these chat rooms everyone could chat while watching videos together in real time. Everyone in the room could add any video they wanted to the queue. And we could ban spammers or people not behaving. My YouTube chat room that I named "The Best Songs On The Planet" was a popular room that was frequently on the front page for being a popular stream. It was open to everyone to share music videos and chat. I discovered a lot of good music this way. Growing up around this time, I had a lot of bad days and coming home to chat with others and listen to great music until bed time made the days much better. I later found out that most of the regulars in my chat room were the same age as me so it was nice talking to them. These days it wouldn't be great for people to be talking to internet strangers at this age, but at the time I made the chat room, the conversations online were much nicer than they are today.

Unfortunately, in 2009 YouTube decided to shut down their experimental "Streams" chat room feature. It was a sad time...

YouTube and YouTube Streams was a fun way to discover new music and it started me on my journey of falling in love with music. Then Spotify came along and changed things for the better. Spotify has made it much easier to find and enjoy music.

With the way most comment sections go these days (mean comments) it's hard to see YouTube or Spotify adding live chat rooms, but I still miss the old days of going into my YouTube Streams chat room and listening to music and talking to other people in real time. Live audio chat rooms are a popular thing right now where people talk to each other with voice, but hopefully we will see the return of live chat rooms for watching videos or listening to music with other Internet people in a more mainstream and safe way this time.

My YouTube chat room that I named "The Best Songs On The Planet" was a popular room that was frequently on the front page for being a popular stream. It was open to everyone to share music videos and chat.

Interesting story @MattSuda ๐Ÿ˜ณโค๏ธ

I obviously never got to know those features,I was still young in 2006 and I didn't even know a thing about the internet.

But it sounds great. Ofc I say this based on experiences from Discord servers or telegram channels but it really can't be the same thing.

Despite having been around for a relatively short time,I have actually seen this evolution of the internet into a tool for trolling others and commiting all kinds of unsavory actions. It's only natural chatrooms like the one you had would be discontinued.

See, music scares me in a way because it's infinite. This leads me to think there's an infinite number of bangers out there waiting for me to discover. Music discovery is therefore something I appreciate ๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿ–ค.

That's for sharing with the community ๐ŸŽง

Simply wonderful @Brunelicia ๐Ÿ’™

Sometimes the best things are those you never planned for or even slightly conceived.

Due to my introverted nature,I have few friends irl so as you can imagine, the internet has been infinitely helpful in helping me forge some meaningful bonds.

(My mom once told me to make friends lmao ๐Ÿคฃ)

I'm a loner in actuality but Taylith,my internet persona,is really outgoing.

This is not about being pretentious, I just feel comfortable there.

I'm really glad to hear how far you guys have come and that you're still together ๐Ÿ’†๐Ÿ’›

Tell her I said hi lol.

Take care Ma'am ๐ŸŒน
