My Question or Issue
What happened to the markets parameter in the categories API? Without this the feature is basically crippled. See
https://everynoise.com/worldbrowser.cgi
which now inanely returns the same generic results instead of regional ones..
The parameter was country, not markets, of course. The affected endpoints are:
https://api.spotify.com/v1/browse/featured-playlists
https://api.spotify.com/v1/browse/categories
https://api.spotify.com/v1/browse/categories/{category_id}
https://api.spotify.com/v1/browse/categories/{category_id}/playlists
Any response here?
I'm also having issues accessing the global playlist
Hi! What about fixing this? This is a long-standing and useful feature that allows API apps to expose listeners to Spotify featured playlists, so it's clearly in Spotify's interest for it to keep working!
Yes, it is still broken (as from Aug 15, 2024)
If I send a GET request to
https://api.spotify.com/v1/browse/featured-playlists?locale=en_GB&limit=50
instead of giving me the featured playlists from UK, it gives me my local feature playlists instead (in my case, it gives me results from Brazilian featured playlists).
The API is bringing results based only on the IP that made the request.
For instance, if, using a VPN, I change my IP to UK, it gives me the UK featured playlists, if I change to AR, it gives me the Argentina featured playlists. It never respects the locale request on the URL.
Here's an example: https://youtu.be/-aG3RiBcSvE
As someone who resonates mostly with music outside of the US, this change is devastating. 🥲
It's really terrible that Spotify decided to do this change, as well as break the link for "New Releases" each week. If I wanted to be aware of songs that were released worldwide in micro genres each week, the depth of that made me a smarter and more knowledgable Spotify user. Ending this feature has made me a less curious Spotify user. That cannot be good on any level for a Spotify UX.
Any update on this?
Good news: there's an update. Bad news: those playlist endpoints are being deprecated completely.
