Cover art and Profile picture resizing

Looking for some clarification on the rules for resizing album covers and profile pictures from the web API. I want to resize them but keep the aspect ratio and everything else the same. I see that images are often returned in 2 or 3 sizes such as 640x640, 300x300, and 64x64 pixels, but I'd like to adjust the height and width to something like 46x46 pixels for example.

From the Design Guide: "Artwork must be kept in its original form. Don't animate or distort it in any way. This includes applying overlays and blurring."

The language here isn't clear to me. I wouldn't consider resizing (without changing the aspect ratio) to be "distorting".
