Inquiry Regarding Use of Metadata and Redirecting Users to External Content

Inquiry Regarding Use of Metadata and Redirecting Users to External Content

Hello,

I am working on a content discovery platform that uses metadata from YouTube/Spotify (such as titles, artists, and descriptions) to display content information. The platform allows users to explore content and then redirects them to YouTube/Spotify to watch/listen to the media. After viewing the content, I would like to encourage users to return to my platform.

I would like to clarify a few points:

  1. Is it permissible to display metadata (such as titles, artists, and descriptions) from YouTube/Spotify on my platform?
  2. Can I redirect users to YouTube/Spotify to view the actual content?
  3. Is it allowed to encourage users to return to my platform after they finish consuming content on YouTube/Spotify?

Are there any guidelines, restrictions, or legal considerations I should be aware of when implementing this type of functionality using YouTube/Spotify APIs?

I would greatly appreciate any insights or guidance from the community.

Thank you in advance!

Best,

Hi @GojoSatorou

Thank you for reaching out to the Community, and welcome!

I wanted to let you know that your idea does not align with the Spotify Developer Policy. Specifically, under "III. Some Prohibited Applications," it states: "5. Do not create any product or service which is integrated with streams or content from another service."

I hope this clarifies things! If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

Cheers!
