Moving from student premium account to family premium account

Solved!

Moving from student premium account to family premium account

Hi. My son has the Student Premuim account. I'd like to set up a Family premium account which includes him as it works out cheaper. What's the procedure? Do I cancel his Direct Debit??? He's scared he'll lose all his playlists when he moves over!!

Hey @pilch74,

He has to cancel his subscription by following the instructions from this support article: https://support.spotify.com/account_payment_help/payment_help/how-to-cancel-your-subscription/. Don't worry, he won't lose any off his stuff (eg. Playlists).

Once his subscription has ended, he should be able to accept the Premium for Family invite. 🙂

Many thanks

Just seen the rest of your meessge! Many thanks

I followed this with him on his account but it is not working. When he clicks on the Accept Invitation link it takes him to a page that has no real content. The URL says redeem and a code, but there is nothing on the page.  Is there a time window after he cancels his student account that he has to wait before the token works?

Ignore this, because this thread was marked answered I am opening up a new thread here.

Hi. I’m just seeing your response from three years ago. I am considering doing the same thing for my family. Is it still true that they would not lose their playlists if they transfer from their student subscriptions to my newly created family subscription?

Hey there @MSStateDawg,

Thanks for reaching out!

Don't worry - if your family members have their own Premium accounts, cancel their subscriptions and then join the Family plan, they'll keep all of their liked songs and playlists.

The only thing that will change is their subscription because they'll become part of the Premium Family.
