My Question or Issue

I upgraded my account from Premium to Premium Duo and connected it to my partners account so she now also has Premium (coming from Apple Music). Her account correctly says she's on Premium and most of the functions work as expected, but she can't access the audio books (it tells her to upgrade to premium), but I can.. the whole point of upgrading for her was to access the audio books which we believe she now has an entitlement to according to the T&Cs, so if this doesn't work, we'll just have to downgrade my account. Does anyone know why this is please?

FYI, mine if the iPhone 13 Pro and hers is the newer iPhone 14 Pro - we've updated the OS and Spotify apps to the latest.

BUG: Also, tried to upload images from my Photo library (on macOS) to this support page; you're allowing .jpg but not .jpeg - please update as this is what's used by iPhoto and iPhones!

Hey @tommed84,

Thanks for reaching out.

Right now, Audiobooks in Premium is available only on select plans and is limited to plan managers. This is also mentioned on your third screenshot 🙂

This means if you joined a Duo or Family plan as a member, you won’t have access to the free listening time, but this is something that will be explored in the future to allow Family and Duo users to have more flexibility from their audiobooks access.

For more info, you can also visit the following Newsroom article: https://newsroom.spotify.com/2023-10-03/audiobooks-included-in-spotify-premium/.

Lastly, please create a post in the appropriate board regarding the image file format issue, if that's something you'd like to get looked into.

Hope this clears things up!

This is disappointing. My partner is the plan manager and I am the one who listens to audiobooks, not her. So this is wasted on us.

In deed this is disappointing, I have the same issue. I added  my husband to my plan just for the audio books. In order for him to leasen to a specific audio book he need to buy the book, for the Songs of Aquiles is $25 dollars. It seems that is time to switch  to Audible where they are more stray foward with their rules.

Still waiting for a solution from Spotify. It is such a hassle setting up another Duo account just so we can swap the plan manager to the person who actually wants to use the audiobooks subscription.

Absolutely disgrace..

Duo is marketed as 2 premium accounts under one roof.. but it's not really, is it?

I question why this product was promoted to us while we both listen to audio books on a regular basis.. know your customer segments and be clear what is actually included and different to the existingw plan

When will this issue be resolved?

Can this be sorted please? Advertised as two premium accounts under one payment but really isn't. At least let us select which account can use the audiobooks, how many people actually listen to them.

Thinking about cancelling and switching to apple music

Why advertise premium for two if it’s not? We should both be able to listen to audiobooks. This is ridiculous.

Ahhhh agreed! Only reason I upgraded to Duo was to share the 15 hours of audiobook time with my son.... very disappointing, I also feel that the advertising is misleading since it says two PREMIUM memberships for the duo plan...

Super annoying. Also coming on here in hope of a solution - feels like we are being cheated majorly.

Says 2 premium accounts! Really annoyed that the secondary account  isn’t actually premium. In reality the secondary account is basic.

Is there a solution in sight? I feel so frustrated to pay for the duo plan and only I have access to audio books. Considering switching my membership to a different company. 😞

Says two premium accounts.

Reads like it would be the same issue with a familly account. This is nonsensical.

And the subscription cost is increasing next months?

Same as all the other posts here. Upgraded to premium duo so that my partner and I could BOTH have premium accounts, as advertised. Thought we could share the 15 hours. FALSE ADVERTISING!!!! Change this now, spotify!

This is an issue that hits all the definitions of false advertising and might qualify for a class action. Spotify definitely marketed this as "two Premium accounts under one roof", yet one of those accounts in fact does not include premium features.

I definitely expect this to be resolved very shortly, or I will consider looking at more format options for addressing Spotify's clear lack of fair dealings with customers. I don't expect to purchase things and not receive the product that has been promoted, and I suspect thousands of people are having the same issue.

Disappointing. I will be cancelling Duo after the reduced price trial period. Surely the whole point of the concept is to allow two equal premium memberships in one payment plan.
