How are the Albums/Artist from home page decided?

Solved!

How are the Albums/Artist from home page decided?

Plan

Premium

Platform

Web / Windows App / Android App / Android Auto

sss.png

I noticed all of my devices will show the these exact 4 recommendations on my homepage. This has become a problem especially on Android Auto, since those 4 tiles will take up 80% of my home screen, that I will rarely use except for liked songs.

While I read elsewhere that those cannot be removed, is there any way for me to try manipulate them, therefore edit them out? Such as searching for something excessively and hopefully bump the existing ones out?

The Artist is someone that I only searched once, without listening to.
The Album is an artist using a malicious common name, that tricked my Google Home to play their music from a voice command.

The playlist is one of my playlists.

Edit: Solution tl;dr:

Only web player affects song selections. All player affects podcast selections.

In order to force an album/song/artist to show up on the home screen, use the web player, and play that album/song/artist for a few songs.

Hey @cyclost,

Thank you for reaching out here in the Community.

Recommendations on the home page are based on your listening habits. Those usually update when the algorithm has been able to gather enough data on your listening activity, but sometimes it can seem to be stuck if nothing changes.

If that's the case for you, we'd recommend logging out and then logging back in two times in a row on your PC and on the mobile app. It sounds a bit odd, but it forces a sync between the account and your device.

It's also a good idea to try following some new artists/ playlists and listening to music via the search option a few days. Make sure that Private Session is switched off. This should refresh your recommendations and the cards that appear on your home page.

If the issue persists after a while, we'd suggest performing a clean reinstall of the app with the steps here. It'll get you the latest app version with all necessary updates and fixes and will remove any corrupted files from previous installations that might be interfering with the app's performance on your device.

Hope this helps. If you have any questions or need anything else, the Community is here for you.

Hello @Lyubka,

Thank you for your reply. In the past few days I've been doing the following...

* Logging in/out from my devices

* Logging into web version of Spotify (clean log-in every time).

* Search for artists and albums that are other than my homepage's recommendation.

Unfortunately, nothing have changed since then. The artist on my homepage was a one-time search and Album was a spam album that I accidentally played on one of my Google Home devices.

I recalled my previous recommendation before this happened was some podcasts. I admit I don't like them, but I would still rather see those than a spam album. For my next step I will try listen to some of those and see if anything changes.

Thanks,

@cyclost

Thank you! This actually solves the mystery.

I tested a bit, and my conclusion is: only web player, or playing podcasts from anywhere will affect homepage shortcuts.
