I can't add playlists to my library

I can't add playlists to my library

For some reason I'm not able to add playlists to my library anymore. I'm able to click the 'plus' button and it becomes green, but after that nothing happens anymore. There's nothing to see in my library.

I've got a premum account.

What's the reason of this?

Hey there @XY81_Rewinds,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community.

This is odd. Just to confirm, is this happening on a specific device or have you noticed the same behavior when logging in to your account on a different one? Could you let us know the make, model, OS version and the Spotify version of the affected device(s)?

Also, have you already tried performing a clean reinstall of the app? This is often an overlooked step, but it can be helpful to get rid of any cache that might be causing trouble.

If that doesn't do the trick, send over a video or some screenshots where we can take a better look at this behavior.

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Hello!

I have the same problem, both on Windows and Android. When I try to add a playlist to my library it gets removed a second later. The same thing with moving playlists around in my library. I move a playlist and it moves back to where it was again. I did not experience this problem 12 days ago though. Hopefully it will be solved soon, because I like to move stuff around every now and then,

Hey @TimLinden,

Welcome to the Community and thank you for joining the conversation.

Just to be on the same page, have you tried to perform a clean reinstall of the app as mentioned previously by @Novy? If not, we'd recommend following the steps mentioned in this article to see if it makes any difference.

It would also be great if you could have someone log in with their account on your devices - such as a friend or a family member, to see if the issue persists.

Lastly, include in your next response the OS version of both devices, along with the Spotify version you're currently running to continue investigating the case.

We'll be on the lookout.

Hi @OscarDC!

Thanks for answering and for the welcome.

First of all, after writing yesterday I tried using Spotify Web Player to add and move playlists. But it didn’t work either. There I got an error message saying ”Something went wrong”. It sure did! 😆

Now, I have tried reinstalling the app on both devices and I still have the same problem. I have made screen recordings from the apps on my PC and my phone. You can see me trying to add a playlist. I’m pressing the plus button. It switches to a check mark, like it should, and as you see on the video from my PC the playlist also shows up at the top of my playlist library. But then it gets instantly removed again and the check mark turns back into a plus sign.

Then I realised, I also have Spotify on my MacBook, Android Tablet and Samsung TV. So I checked those too, even though I don’t use Spotify on them that much, at least not for editing my library. Anywat, the results were the same. Plus, I tried to delete a playlist too. Didn’t work either. Renaming my own playlists seems to work though!

I can also still add, move and delete songs to my playlists, so the issue can probably be narrowed down to just the playlists and not the songs in it. Since the problem exists on all of my devices, it kind of looks like my account has been limited somehow. But since you asked, here are the OS versions and Spotify versions:

Lenovo Yoga: OS version 22631.4317, Spotify version 1.2.48.405.gf2c48e6f

Sony Xperia 1 III: OS version 61.2.A.0.472A, Spotify version 8.9.82.620

In case it matters, I’ll add the details about the versions in the recently mentioned devices aswell:

MacBook Pro: OS version 11.7.10, Spotify version 1.2.48.405.gf2c48e6f

Samsung Galaxy Tab A6: OS version 8.1.0, Spotify version 8.9.82.620

Samsung QLED Smart TV: OS version T-NKLDEUC-2505.4 , BT – S, Spotify version: 2024.10.07_8-1625ab0

Lastly, after a quick failed try to log on to my phone app with my mom’s account (my Facebook recognised me without asking who wants to log in) I figured I don’t even have to try this step, because based on my attempts with five different devices, plus the web player, clearly this whole problem seems related to my account somehow.

Alright, let's find the solution to this, right!

Hello again @TimLinden,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the info shared.

Taking into account that this is happening on multiple devices, with updated versions and your own account, it's indeed possible that this could be related to your account. In case you have a large number of liked/created playlists in your library, it's possible that it could affect the proper behavior of the app.

To make sure of this, and keeping in mind that it is hard to login with your mom's account, we'd recommend trying with a different one or creating a new account just for testing purposes to verify if it shows the same behavior when liking a playlist or not. You can follow the steps mentioned in this article to create a new account with different credentials.

We'll be on the lookout.

Hi again!

I've managed to log in with another account and there were no problem liking, moving or deleting playlists. Then I logged back in on my account and there the problem was again.

Out of the blue...i right click to create a new playlist from a specific song, it briefly appears as song title on the left (with other playlists) then disappears.  I've reordered the listing...it is gone.   Happens repeatedly.   Help!

Hey there @TimLinden,

Thanks for your reply.

This type of behavior might be linked to a large library. Remember that having a large number of liked/created playlists saved could affect the proper behavior of the app. If this is your case, then we'd suggest you make sure you reduce the size of your library, so you won't encounter this issue.

In case you decide to create and use a new account, as mentioned by @OscarDC above, you can follow the steps on this article to transfer the content you've saved.

Hope this clears things up. If you have any questions or need a hand with anything else, we're always a post away.

Hello @AlejaR!

Since I can't delete playlists by myself, is there a possibility to get them deleted by Spotify? I think I have an idea of a number of playlists I don't use, probably more than comes to my mind. But if I try to delete them myself, well they're just going to come back anyway. I hope I can solve this without having to create a new account.

Hi @TimLinden,

Thanks for getting back to us.

Yes, you can try reaching out to our Support team here so they can check your account and help remove the unused playlists from their end if possible.

The Community will be here if anything else comes up.

Hi again everyone!

I haven't replied for a while, because I've been a bit busy. But I have good news! After two weeks things were back to normal again last Thursday. And I didn't even have to contact support. The problem just solved itself somehow. I removed a lot of playlists anyway, just to be sure. But thanks for all of your help!

Hey @TimLinden,

That's indeed good news - thanks for sharing them with us 🎉

Should anything else appear, we're just a post away.

Cheers!
