I want to know how to make new playlists default to private.

Currently you can right click on a playlist and 'make private' but I can't see how you can have new playlists default to private. Also I'm not talking about the absence of playlists on my public profile, because as far as I can see even though a playlist is not on your profile it is still publicly searchable (which means it's not private). Please let me know if you have the answer. Thanks!

Currently, there's no setting that would make all new playlists private by default, however, if you feel strongly about this, feel free to submit it as an idea, making sure that it adheres to our Idea Exchange guidelines.
