Library sorting order

Library sorting order

Hello,

I am using the windows 10 Spotify app. I have always sorted my liked songs by artist, until very recently it would then sort by album alphabetically within the artist, now it is sorted by song name. I am unsure why this is, but I can find no way to revert it back - I have tried pressing shift and clicking on albums - If this is not possible and for some reason Spotify have decided to change the way it sorts songs then please allow us to change this.

Thank you

Michael

Hey @buddhabing,

Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community.

If you'd like to present your feedback regarding the Desktop app's playlist sorting option, make sure to follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Spotify Community
  2.  Click on Menu
  3. Click on Ideas > Idea submissions
  4. Scroll all the way to the bottom and click on Let’s go

As a heads-up, it's good to know that the higher the number of votes an Idea gets, the more likely it is for the Idea to be implemented. If you wish to learn more about how your feedback will reach Spotify, feel free to take a look at this article.

Hope you'll find this info useful. Have a good day!

Can you confirm it is currently not possible to change the sorting order in the way I described?

Hello @buddhabing,

I'm afraid right now it's not possible to sort your Liked Songs alphabetically by Album while they are already sorted by Artist. As a workaround you could filter one Artist and then sort by Album.

Hope we were able to shed some light on the situation. Let us know if there's anything else we can help with!

Happy listening 🎶

I'm sorry, what? Sorting by artist then album has been Spotify's default mode for 10+ years. This change literally just happened, with seemingly no community input and no regard for what users may think. Why on earth would I want to listen to music in my Liked Songs in complete alphabetical order, regardless of album? Your development team is ostracizing devoted music listeners, me and many people I personally know included. Such a shame. With how much these unwarranted, pointless, confusing changes are happening, I'm gonna have to consider an alternative to Spotify. It's beyond ridiculous.

Why should we have to put in a request or ticket to restore Spotify back to its more logical sorting format? How about maybe give us the option to toggle how sorting is done instead of forcing us to accept whatever way your guys' dev team thinks is the right way?

It’s like they don’t want you trying to curate a library. I don’t understand why - I don’t see how it hurts their bottom line, but it must since they’ve utterly destroyed curation functionality by forcing you to “follow” artists, like songs AND albums, and now are putting liked songs after sorting by artist in alphabetical order of song rather than album unlike every other functioning music library in existence. Going to seriously begin researching alternatives. I’ve been trying to fix my library since the awful UI changes in ‘19 and they keep forcing me to go back and start over.

Hey there @sammalamma88,

Thanks for sharing your opinion with the community!

A workaround to get your desired result would be to Filter the playlist by Artist name and then sort by Album.

You can also add your +Vote to the idea @buddhabing has shared.

Hope this helps.

That only works on desktop, correct?

Can anyone at Spotify provide an explanation of why Spotify is bucking the industry standard and sorting alphabetically by song title after sorting by artist (instead of sorting by album and keeping albums together in their proper order)? Why was this change made - what purpose does it serve?

Hi there @sammalamma88,

Thanks for the reply.

This way of filtering and sorting can be done in the Desktop app.

Currently we don't have any official info on why playlists are sorted by default this way.

Don't hesitate to reach out again if you have questions.
