Local Files won't play on Google Nest Mini

My Question or Issue

My Google Nest Mini won't play my local files. It's saying that 'Can't be played right now" but they play fine on my phone as I have them directly on my phone. Is this a feature or an actual issue? Is there something on Google's side I need to do? Or is this just actually something I can't do? I've reinstalled, cleared cache, etc.

Thanks for posting in the Community.

Local Files cannot be played through an external speaker without you connecting to the speaker to your phone/PC via Bluetooth or an AUX (or any other) cable.

The reason for that is, that the local files are on your mobile device or the PC, but the Google Nest is connecting to the Spotify API independently, so you can't cast the files to it.

You can play the local files only on the device they're discovered on.

This is really odd, because mine were playing the other day through my Google speakers yet now they won't.
