Local files sync/show but won't play

Local files sync/show but won't play

Premium, USA

Mac OS Monterey

My Question or Issue

Importing local files from my computer and playing them across devices (iPhone) was working totally fine for me besides some syncing issues. I had imported a couple new albums and had duplicates and other annoying organizational issues, so I did a COMPLETE clean reinstall of both Spotify and of my music library.

Now, when I add local files, it finds the folder and the files fine, they all appear in my Local Files and aren't greyed out or anything but when I try to play any of them it gives me the "Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file you can import it" error. I've tried creating new folders for it to source from in multiple places on my disk but nothing seems to help? Most of these files were playing just fine last night!

What's the issue? Please help 😞

Hey @jshhh,

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!

What you can try is to convert some of your local files to a different format (MP3 preferably). After that place them in a new directory on your hard drive and add that folder from your Spotify's local files settings.

Let us know if they play like that.
