Missing tracks from my Spotify playlists

Missing tracks from my Spotify playlists

I'm pretty sure several tracks that I saved in my Spotify playlists have disappeared (and I'm not meaning they are no longer available as when they are greyed out related to missing rights from the publishers).
I'm not talking either about a few tracks which may have been deleted accidentally. I'm talking of hundreds of tracks missing.

Is that a problem you've encountered?
Is there a solution to get them back?
It took me a lot of time over the years to curate all my playlist, so seeing those being altered by a technical bug makes me want to consider switching to another streaming  service.

Or maybe the bug is just that tracks that are in a specific playlist don't appear "checked" in this playlist when I hit the "Add to playlist" button on the Spotify mobil app. But they are actually in there already 🤔

There are no known issues currently that may be causing this. Can you provide us some more info so that we can investigate this further?

 

Firstly, let's make sure if the issue you have is of songs getting removed from playlists or about the Add to Playlist list no showing the checkmarks properly. Or perhaps it's both. Please look into it and send us some screenshots of exactly what happens and what you see. Additionally, please let us know the following:

  • Is this on all devices or only on specific one(s)? Do you see the same across all device?
  • When did this start happening?
  • Are all playlists affected or only specific one(s)? What about the Liked Songs?

With this information, we’d be happy to investigate.

It seems the problem may be linked to my Android Spotify app: when I choose to add a track to a playlist, I get the list of my existing playlist and normally if it's already in a given playlist, the selection button on the right is already green and checked.
But for many tracks this is not the case: the button is not checked although the track is indeed already in the playlist.
And if I proceed and add it, I don't get the warning message telling me the track is already in the playlist.
(And I checked, I'm not talking of different versions of the same song.)
It's pretty annoying to continue building my playlists 😞
Any tips to solve this?

Just to confirm, have you checked if the same happens on other devices as well? It's important for us to know if the issue is device-related so we can focus specifically on that. 

 

Additionally, could you check if this happens when you try to add songs to large playlists or if it happens with small playlists (let's say 50-100 songs) as well? You can also double-check if the songs are exactly the same by comparing their URI. If they're identical, that means they're the same song, but if they're different, they might have been re-uploaded and the system identifies them as different. 

 

That being said, if the issue happens with the exact same songs (one already in the playlist and the other one you're trying to add) and you noticed this behavior only on your phone, it's well worth running a clean reinstall of the app to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble. Also, sending us the exact make/model, operating system and Spotify version of your phone would come in handy.
