My Question or Issue
My shuffle button not working. Even when i click it it doesn't work. It doesn't turn green and the playlist still play in order. it's been like this for 3 days now.
Hi there @Elinamonica97,
Thanks for reaching out.
There don't seem to be any other reports about such an issue and we haven't encountered it ourselves. Consider trying a clean reinstall to clear any intermittent issues with the app you may be facing.
If the issue persists after that, could you please provide us the following:
With this information, we’d be happy to investigate.
Keep us posted.
My shuffle button has also just stopped working. The button is there but when clicked it doesn't turn green or shuffle my playlist.
I've re-started the app, re-started my phone & it still doesn't work. I don't want to re-install the app as I'll need to re-download ovwr 3000 songs & podcasts.

Hey folks,
Just to confirm, is this with specific playlists (eg. created by Spotify) or with all playlists in general? Does the shuffle button work on albums or artist pages? Are you able to activate it from the Now Playing View?
It's worth asking someone who uses Spotify to log in to their account on your device temporarily to see if they'd experience the same behavior. If there are any pending app- or OS updates, I'd recommend installing them.
If the issue persists, feel free to share a short screen recording which captures the described behavior in action so we can take a closer look.
Cheers 🤘
My phone is doing the same thing, every time I either change playlist or select a new song within my playlists the shuffle turns off and the shuffle button at the top of my playlist doesn't turn green ever. Please let me know if anybody has found a working solution yet. I have an iPhone 12 and am on the most recent version of the app. I have premium also
it works from the now playing view and it works as normal on other accounts but just not on mine. It just when you press the shuffle button at the top of a playlist or choose a new song within the playlist or swap playlists that it doesn't work. It jusst really an annoyance and inconvenient.
Hey there @DB777,
Thanks for getting in touch about this here in the Community.
Could you let us know which troubleshooting steps you've already tried? That way we can avoid repeating any steps.
If you haven't tried logging out and then logging back in to your account twice in a row, we suggest that you give those steps a try to make sure your account and device has synced correctly.
If this doesn't do the trick, it's well worth running a clean reinstall of the app to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble.
If after following the aforementioned steps nothing changed, would you mind sending us a short screen recording of the issue happening so we can take a closer look? You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).
We'll be waiting for your reply.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AxddTyJp8nB_4GHMT68q538YfkXfhrRt/view?usp=drivesdk I have already tried logging out many times, clean installing, clearing the cache, powering off my device and turning it back on, and deleting the app and reinstalling just normally.
nothing has changed since then and the shuffle is still broke and I haven’t found any solutions yet.
Hey there @DB777,
Thanks for your reply and for the info shared.
We could see that the playlist you were listening to was quite long. Would you mind checking if this is happening on a shorter playlist? Does this happen when playing a long playlist or does this happen no matter what playlist you choose to play?
On another note, we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us the following info:
Keep us in the loop!
It’s no matter what playlist I’m listening to, it stops the shuffle when I change songs or playlists, I’m on an iPhone 12, version 9.0.2.419, it only doesn’t work on my account, it works on other accounts that I log into, and it’s broken across Bluetooth and no Bluetooth also.
Hey @DB777,
Thanks for all additional details here - we appreciate it!
As you mention that it seems to work on another account, and considering the troubleshooting you've already tried, it's possible that the issues you're experiencing with Shuffle are related to the Spotify account itself. We do have other reports of Shuffle not working as expected in this thread, but your issue is a bit different and does get solved when using a different account.
In this case, we suggest creating a completely new account (if you haven't already). To ensure you keep your favorite tunes, you can copy all of your playlists and Liked Songs over to the new one as well. You can check the exact steps on this page.
Also, keep in mind that if you're currently subscribed to Premium, you will need to cancel that subscription before starting another one on the new account. This is to make sure you're not getting charged for both subscription in the future. And if everything is running smoothly on the new one, you can close the other account later by following these steps.
We're just a post away should anything else pop up!
