Shuffle keeps turning back on

Shuffle keeps turning back on

Ok I have looked through a dozen of 'solutions' but not actually found anything that helps at all. I have premium, I listen on my andriod and computer and even when I go through my liked songs or playlists and tap a song I want to play and go from there it will not go to the next song because it's on shuffle. I have to turn it off every time and I'm getting really annoyed. I am not hitting shuffle play. I just want to listen to my songs and playlists in order sometimes and it really throws me off when I have to stop what I'm doing to turn off shuffle and start over.

Yes, this drives me mad.

Bad enough having the massive shuffle button and no play button but even when clicking a track it decides it knows better.

It keeps the setting for a while then at some point just decides to turn shuffle back on. Very frustrating.

Hi folks!

Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community.

Sorry for the delayed reply. We've just come across this thread.

@rpcutts, could you let us know if this is happening across devices or only on a specific one? Also, would you mind letting us know if this happens with your downloaded content, when you're streaming or both?

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Thanks Eni,

I'll take a few days to collect some info.

Haven't noticed on diff devices but it's rare I'll listen on anything other than my android phone. But, as I say, I'll get some concrete details and get back to you.

Hey @rpcutts

Take your time to test this out and keep us posted on the result.

We'll be keeping an eye out for your reply 🙂

Hi Eni,

Well after tearing my hair out trying to reproduce this, I finally figured it out.

In the Android Clock app you can set an alarm to play a Spotify playlist. When the alarm goes off, the playlist plays on shuffle. That makes perfect sense.

However, the next time I open the app and start playback by touching the first track in a list. It stays on shuffle.

This behaviour was observed using a pixel 3a with Android version 11 (build number RQ3A.211001.001) and Version 8.6.72.1121 of the Spotify app.

The same was observed after updating to Android 12 (build number SP1A.210812.015) and Version 8.6.74.1176 of the Spotify app.

Hi @rpcutts,

Thanks for the post and for the information you've provided.

Can you let us know if Shuffle turns on if you choose a song or album for your alaram instead?

Cheers.

Hi Alex,

Yes the behaviour is the same whether a playlist, album, or track is selected for the alarm.

Hi there @rpcutts,

Thanks for getting back in touch and letting us know that.

We tried this on our end, but couldn't replicate it.

In this case, it's well worth running a clean reinstall to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble. This one is more thorough than the usual one.

If this doesn't do the trick, could you try logging in to your account in a different phone to see if the same happens?

Keep us posted on how it goes 🙂

Thanks Eni,

No worries, glad it's an unexplained edge case. I'm just relieved I know what triggers it on my phone to be honest. Thought I was going mad. If I get time to do a reinstall I'll update the thread.

I've added a link below to a screen recording showing the issue mostly in case anyone else ever gets the issue.

Hi @rpcutts,

Thanks for your prompt reply and this video.

Keep us posted if the odd behavior persists after doing the clean reinstall, we'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Cheers 🙂

This happens to me on an iPhone 12 Pro Max. IT IS DRIVING ME INSANE. SPOTIFY FIX**bleep**

Hey @augdane,

Thanks for posting.

Let's try to do a clean reinstall of the app. Here are the steps for it. If you've already done that, could you share the troubleshooting steps you've already tried?

We'd also like to know how exactly you are starting the playlist/album playback. Is it with the green play button or by directly clicking on a particular song as described by @QueenieSeras?

Keep us posted,

Cheers!

I’m on iPhone 13 and this maddening issue persists. I’ve done a clean reinstall and rebooted my phone multiple times. I click directly into the song of my playlist and can eliminate any fat finger possibilities. The issue is also inconsistent, there are days when it turns auto shuffle on its own and takes 1 time to revert back to non-shuffle mode, and others where no matter how often I turn shuffle mode off it continues to turn shuffle mode back on. I don’t even listen to Spotify anymore when in shower or not right next to my phone, since 9/10 it’ll just randomly go on shuffle where I’m listening to something entirely different than when I want. I listen to Spotify through mobile only. Please fix!

Hi there @boozoe,

Thank you for your reply in this thread. We're sorry to hear about this. Let's take a closer look into this.

To start with, can you let us know if this occurs on one specific device or multiple devices?

It would also be great if you can confirm if this happens random or always in the same playlist/playlists?

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Take care!

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

I am having this same problem. I don't use the alarm clock thing. It's maddening. I HATE shuffle. I never use it on purpose and it's always on now. Any time I click a new artist's name it will already have the shuffle button clicked.

Hey there @mrpunaway

Thanks for getting in touch about this and welcome to the Community.

The shuffle icon next to the big green play button was recently introduced and it's activated by default on every new artist page you open, so this is expected behavior.

However, if you deactivate it on a certain artist, the app will remember and you won't have to deactivate it again. This is not the case for albums though - there the shuffle is deactivated by default instead.

If you need a hand with anything else, the Community is here for you.

Wow, that is a horrible and incredibly annoying decision. What room of suits came up with that bad idea? PLEASE give us the option to disable that infuriating "feature." I can't reiterate enough how much I hate shuffle.

I control Spotify through my phone only, and play it from 1-2 amazon echo devices. This is happening across all playlists. The issue stopped for a while, but recently resumed in full force. Every single time I play Spotify shuffle will inevitably come back on. It’s also always defaulted to it. So annoying!

That is literally the worse feature ever. I can’t believe it’s by design. Please provide feedback that it sucks beyond belief!
