Songs added to playlist based on YouTube searches

Songs added to playlist based on YouTube searches

So, this has been happening for the past month or so.

What is happening is that when I search a song on YouTube like "Despacito" I will later find that song in my Spotify playlist, even though I didn't add it.

This has also happened for things other than songs; one time I was searching about OCD on YouTube and then I later found "The OCD Song" in my Spotify playlist.

I have changed both my Spotify and Google passwords, but this is still happening.

Please get back to me on this.

Thanks

Hi there @nelson_ahlvik,

thanks for posting !

If you're experiencing odd behavior on your account, please make sure to take all the protection steps on this help page and this one as well.

However, you can also consider creating a new account and transferring all of your data to this account.

In order to perform this process correctly, please visit this Spotify Answer and follow the instructions on it.

Hope this helps 🙂

I would go even further - here's what happened to me. I was watching an episode of a little known kids show on youtube. Not long after, an instrumental song, based on the soundtrack to that specific episode showed up in my "discover weekly" playlist. How did Spotify find that particular piece of music, that I've never listened to before, unless they were somehow monitoring my youtube activity ? I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but this is honestly creepy and I would appreciate a response from Spotify.

i've also been having this same exact problem for a while now. instrumental versions and covers of songs keep getting to a playlist that i've deleted, and everything that is added is based on my youtube watch history. i've tried changing both my google and spotify password but it still seems to happen.

This is happening to me too. There are a few video podcasts I watch on Youtube, and after I watch a particular episode (on YT), the episode will be in the 'Episodes for You' recommended section of Spotify, even though I've never listened to / liked the podcast (let alone episode) in my Spotify account.

It's really cute how Spotify is offering links to 'Account Hacked' support pages, when the deeper question is THEIR data security and how they're sharing data with Youtube.

There is no hacker in the scenarios mentioned by other users above.

Spotify is engaging in some sketchy data sharing practices.
