My Question or Issue

Hi, my songs on my phone keep going grey even though I have successfully downloaded them to my phone... they are grey until I turn on the PC desktop spotify app, and then the phone songs become full/downloaded again... why is this happening and how to stop it from happening..? I thought if i downloaded songs to my app on my phone they will stay there... see screenshots attached of the grey song BEFORE I open my spotify app on my PC and after.

Hey @Laserfocus,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community.

That's an odd behavior that could be related to some damaged cache stored on your device as it's affecting the local files. In this case, you can first try performing a reinstall of the app by following this guide. We recommend this step since it gets you the latest app version and removes corrupted data from previous installations that could be causing issues with the app's performance on your device.

If the issue persists, we'd also recommend removing the Local files from your device and adding them again, making sure you have the audio files saved on your phone.

Lastly, include in your next response the Spotify version you're currently running to continue investigating the case.

Spotify version 8.8.86

I re-installed the app but same thing.

Also I somehow have several of the same song on my app with no way to delete it - how to delete the duplicate songs, where exactly are they stored on my iphone i cant find it anywhere

Hey @Laserfocus,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the shared info.

You can find the location by following the steps mentioned under the Browser or Storage app on iOS section of this article. After following the steps, you can manually delete the duplicated audio files to avoid showing them on the app.

Also, if the issue persists, would you mind checking on a different mobile device (using your own account) to see if it makes any difference? If you don't have another one available, you can borrow one from a friend or family member to test it out.

Hi sir thank you for the feedback, I did indeed find the files, but I have bad news with 2 issues:

1. Some songs are saved inside FOLDERS which contain 2+ songs, which makes it harder to edit/delete/add in bulk.

2. The songs I downloaded straight from Spotify only are NOT located in these files... why not?

Thank you

Hi @Laserfocus,

Thanks for the reply. Regarding your first question, that seems to relate to the folder structure itself, so it's outside of Spotify's direct influence. Regarding your second question, if you're referring to songs you've downloaded within the app itself for online listening, those are not saved as regular files that can be exported and played elsewhere, they are simply cached so that they can be played without an internet connection.

Let us know if you need anything else.

Ok thanks.

Now, I am seeing some songs greyed out on the desktop app, while they are there on the mobile app.

Why can't Spotify be consistent all the time lol? Why does it always remove songs either from desktop or app? Very unreliable...

Hi there @Laserfocus,

Thanks for getting back to us.

Just to confirm, do you have the local files stored on your PC too?

If so, could you send us a screenshot of how the files are displayed on your end? We'll take a closer look. You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert image option in the post editor. Make sure not to send any private info.

Hey @Laserfocus,

Thank you for keeping in contact.

We appreciate the images you've shared with us. Taking them into account, the folder selected for the Local files to be discovered by the app is the  one called "All songs".

It would be great if you could attach to your next response the screenshot of the folder opened, so we can see how they are displayed on your end; and also, a screenshot of the app showing one of the grayed-out songs to confirm that is not available even with the audio file stored on your device.

We appreciate your cooperation investigating this case.

We'll be on the lookout.
