My Question or Issue
I have close to 300 songs in my Liked list. I would prefer to hear the songs randomly shuffled, and I don't want songs to repeat until all other songs have played. Right now Spotify will sometimes play the same songs every day, sometimes putting one in that I haven't heard in a while. This is really annoying. How do I get a random shuffle with no repeats.
I'm using an Android device.
Hey there,
Thanks for posting in the Community.
Sounds like you’re seeing one of a few changes we're trying out.
We’re always testing possible improvements and new features, so you might see something on the app your friend doesn’t, or get a brand-new feature for only a temporary period. We really value your feedback though as it helps inform our decisions going forward, and we'll be sure to pass this on to the right folks.
In the meantime you can leave your vote in this thread, where a relevant idea is proposed.
Hope this helps,
Cheers!
I noticed this too even when I had close to 1000 liked songs it kept playing the same ones. Also when I use Enhance and random 75% of the songs are the enhanced ones even though its supposed to be like 2 out of every 30 songs.

Actually, no it doesn't. What would be helpful is for you to tell me how to get my Liked songs to shuffle randomly so that I am not hearing certain songs repeated, sometimes two or three times a day, while others rarely get played. I paid for a subscription to Spotify because I thought that it would be at least as good as my ten year old and now broken Ipod. I am now considering terminating my Spotify subscription.
Add me to the list of people who is frustrated with this 'issue' Spotify has. I have over 1000 'liked' songs. I am familiar with how it's possible to 'sort' in various ways. I would like to not (like others have said) hear the same songs starting over again each day. I am in my car listening to Spotify for about 4-5 hours per day. It's obvious that over a week, or month's time even that not every song in my "Liked Songs' have been shuffled and played. I'd like for no song to be repeated until all of my Liked songs have been played.
Different, but similar, .... I have over the years made Playlists that equal over 3000 songs. Just like you can 'shuffle' a playlist, I would like to have the option to play my ENTIRE collections of songs that I have in my account.
Yep. Add me to the list too. This is something that has frustrated me for years. I'm forced to unlike songs that I probably would have liked otherwise but they have been way overplayed. The reason why I have many liked songs is because I hate hearing the same songs over and over again
Ditto. Seriously considering switching to another streaming service over this one
I've noticed that it now even plays the same genre of songs in the same order. If it starts with a love song, your in that loop. If it's death metal it will somehow find the only 5 or 6 liked songs out of 500+ and play those.
I swear I listen to the same 5 songs (in the same order) in the shower everyday even though I am constantly removing and adding songs to my liked list. I get so mad trying to change songs I end up soaking the phone.
I only pay $5 with student discount but I get Apple Music free and it has higher quality audio. If I can move all my songs over I might switch, or at least use it half and half.
I hate this too!!! I did find that if, on the song that is currently playing, turning off the shuffle and turn it back on again, the queue changes. I have 1100 songs and will play my liked songs on shuffle. After about 2 hours, I notice the songs repeating. PLEASE PLEASE FIX THIS.... there is a reason I have so many songs.... just like I am assuming the rest of us do too....
Yes! I agree! Just shuffle our liked songs like you would do on an iPod. I have over 5000 liked songs and lately I am
hearing the same thirty songs. Even if I skip through them all. It flies back to the start! How is that shuffling? Please fix Spotify!
This is an annoying thing, you guys at Spotify should know that people don't like to hear the same songs over and over, this is why we don't listen FM radio stations.
Therefore, I have the same issue with Discover Weekly, which it plays the same songs over and over every week, and lately playlists or album radios/mixes started playing the same songs as well, if I hide the song from one radio/mix it will appear in another! I end up spending most of my time hiding or skip tracks which is so frustrating... and I'm paying for that? Seriously I tried Apple Music for few months and it does a much better job, you guys should take example of some features as well!
Ive just turned off shuffle and listen to my liked songs in different sort orders, like album or artist or date added. Heard songs for the first time since liking them 6 months ago.
and Discover Weekly is so off on what I like. Release Radar is much better. Enabling Enhanced on Liked Songs is good too but the ratio is way off but Im happy its finally in the desktop app
Theres an app called Stats.fm that will show you how many times you've played a song, how many minutes all sorts of stats if you really want to see how messed up shuffle is.
I recently switched to using Sonos to random play my liked Spotify songs. **bleep**, I had forgotten what it was like to actually listen to more that just a handful on repeat. How hard can it be to randomise a list!
How does that work? I noticed I can play Spotify in the Sony Headphones app and the Bowers&Wilkins app without even opening Spotify but isn't that just using the same algorithm?
Looking around for a solution on Reddit I found this topic that may be interesting for some of you> https://www.reddit.com/r/lastfm/comments/htzomy/list_of_spotifylastfm_stats_websites_and_not_just/
If Spotify does not stop looping their choice of my 1800 liked song when I set it to random, I'm canceling my premium family account. Sick of it !!!
Hey Dian, I am looking into this because I have the same issues and you haven’t given any answers besides a prefabricated answer from before. Is there a way I can turn off when you “try out” new things because I would like it to shuffle through my whole playlist and not just a few songs. This is really annoying that I can’t use my full playlist because it’s being capped by Spotify when I pay for it a subscription to have music and pay for a playlist that I can’t fully use.
Sorry... repeating the same songs over and over again is a "feature" you're testing? How does that work? Seems like more of a bug. I'm sure your system has some way of tracking the number of times a track has been played. It'd be a more intelligent experience if your system used that information to keep shuffled "likes" fresh.
Don't mean to be harsh, but this was a sh*t response.
Just a heads up everyone. I tried turning off englhanced shuffle on my liked songs and it solved the issue. Try this out.
