My Question or Issue

Hello.

I'd love(!) to sort my downloaded podcast episodes by publication date but I don't see how I can do that.

Shows already are sorted by their most-recent episode's publication date, but what about the episode download screen, too?

Any thoughts/ideas, please?

Thanks,

Bram Weiser

Hey @bramweiser,

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!

When you open a Podcast page on your phone you should be able to see the Sort button. If you click that you can Filter > Downloads and Sort by > Date - Newest to oldest (arrow pointing down).

This way your downloaded episodes should get sorted from the latest to the oldest or vice versa.

Hope this helps. Don't hesitate to reach out again if you have questions.

Cheers.

Hi, Alex, and thank you for responding.

Please forgive me, but maybe my question wasn't as precisely-phrased as it
could be...

Yes, you're right, a single(!) podcast's episodes appear on its own page in
date order when the sort is set up that way, but I was thinking about a
different area of the app & site, instead...

I was referring to the collection of podcast episodes that I'd downloaded,
and that includes episodes from a mix of several different podcasts. So
far at least, THAT list appears in the order in which I'd downloaded the
podcasts' episodes, but NOT in the overall order of their publication dates
from among the various podcasts. The latter is what I'm trying to achieve.

Hope this helps. If this still isn't clear, please let me know and I'd
gladly offer a hypothetical example to demonstrate my issue further.

Thanks again,
Bram Weiser

Hey @bramweiser,

Thanks for the detailed clarification.

Unfortunately it's not possible to sort all of your podcast episodes from different creators in that manner.

That’s why we appreciate you taking the time to share your suggestion with the Community. If you think other users might also like to have this option, go ahead and create an idea on the relevant idea board.

We always take new ideas and feedback into consideration to improve the app. Here you can read more on how ideas work.

We also suggest checking this help article for useful tips on how to submit an idea. As a heads-up, it's good to know that the higher the number of votes an idea gets, the more likely it is for the idea to be implemented.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any more questions.

Thanks for writing back again, Alex. I'm glad I could make my point more
clearly this time.

I'm sorry, though, to hear that I didn't miss something, and that the
app/site doesn't actually support this. (FWIW, Stitcher DID support it, at
least until the most-recent overhaul of its app, so I've been "shopping
around" to various other podcast players to see how they compare. I've
come to like that feature very much and am saddened to find out that
Spotify is a player that doesn't support it...at least not yet.)

I'll follow your advice and will see about trying to propose an idea.
Hopefully, Spotify's developers will make it happen very soon (I presume
that it's not THAT difficult to create, or even to make that screen's sort
order a set of options for users to choose from).

Thanks again,
Bram Weiser

Hey @bramweiser,

Thanks for the reply.

Ideas usually take some time to get implemented, but there are plenty of features that have been brought to the app thanks to users' requests.

The podcast section is fairly new and it's still being developed so feedback about usability and making the interface more user friendly is always welcome.

Cheers.
