Sorting Artist by 'Recents' Played

Sorting Artist by 'Recents' Played

My Question or Issue

It seems that the 'Played' field (column) in the 'Recents' sorting for Artist it only gets tracked and updated when you hit play at the Artist level.

So for example, scenarios:

you go to your Library, filter by Artist and sort by 'Recents'. what I expect and understand is that this should sort the list of the user Artist showing the most recently played artist at the top...

So now...

1) let's say 'Played' field is empty for a given Artist, you hit play for a given artist then 'Played' field is properly updated.

2) 'Played' field is empty, you hit play for an Album of given artist, then 'Played' field remains empty. Expected behavior: 'Played' field gets updated same as in scenario 1 since the user did play the Artist through a given album.

In short, the current way 'Played' field gets updated makes that the 'Recents' sorting by Artists doesn't really reflect when a each artist was played recently/last.

Ask, no matter how a given Artist was played (click play on a specific song, click play on an album, or click play at the Artist level) the 'Played' field should get updated to reflect when the artist was played last by the user.

thank you Team!

Hi @mcpato777, thanks for your feedback! I tested this out and was able to verify the sorting behavior as you described. Just to make sure this has the best chance of reaching the Spotify team, I would also recommend submitting this as an idea here that users can comment and vote on.
