adding local files to Spotify app on the mac does not propagate to iphone

Hello, I created a playlist using local files (mp3's of a podcast I paid for) using the spotify app on my mac. As you can see from the screenshot, the download button is selected but there are no green arrows next to the content indicating they have been downloaded. That said, they still play on the computer. They do show up on the spotify app on the iphone (also without arrows) but do not play. I get a message on the phone saying "song not downloaded" (see image.) what am I doing wrong?

The issue could be that the files aren’t supported and hence won’t be able to download. Here’s a link by someone else that might help.
