Hi, since past june of 2020 I noticed that my discover weekly suggest songs that i already listened. So, i have been scrobbling what i listen since then, consistently 50% of my discover weekly playlists is songs that i already listen. Here is the example of this week:
Please fix this, otherwise this playlist is half useless 🙂
Continuing with the analysis, lets take a look to the most played song "Fm" from "Nathan Haines", here is all the time i played that song since jun 2020:
First suggested on 29/6/2020 wich is a MONDAY, so was suggested in a discover weekly. Ok, i didnte like the song, just listen the playlist many times. Six months later is suggested again in my discover weekly on jan 2021. As you see, another six months and again is in my discover weekly on july 2021. Finally for the fourth time is in my discovery weekly on feb 2022.
I only listened that song when appears on my discover weekly, wich happens each 6 months. Is suspicious why spotify tries so hard to makes me like that song 😉
So, after 6 months the algorithm suggest the same things, even i already listen so many times. I think just a line of code could fix that.
Hi, a similar thing happened to me, i got 30 songs (i'm a big fan of hard rock and heavy metal) and they were all from famous bands, also a lot of i songs i already listened (maybe some years ago, not recently, or i have heard them via CD or other systems which i own). Very disappointing, it's meant to make you discover new music and new artists. Other times happened that i got 5 to 10 approximately famous artists/bands, but the other were unknown, or not listened much by me, and a lot of other genres... dunno what to think, they told me that i didn't listened too much these artists recently, it's absurd, i may listen to some less famous bands but i always listen to famous bands still, since they are always in my playlists. Hope next week won't happen, i've got continously problems with Spotify, i'm paying for nothing (i've got also other problems)
Hi there folks,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community and for sharing your feedback and investigation.
We'll be happy to shed more light how the Discover Weekly playlist is been curated. This personalized selection is prepared on a weekly basis filled with songs that you might like, based on your current liked songs and your current followed profiles of friends and artists. The playlist is supposed to refresh/update its content every Monday, however if your musical preferences and listening habits have not dramatically changed in this period (since last week), a notable change might be observed from a week to three weeks later, depending on how actively you explore, like and play new music.
Please note that seeing the same suggestions here and there is actually expected, as they are generated by an algorithm which is referencing those based on your current pool of liked content, thus tipping you that there is a strong match with the recommended title and your preferences.
We hope that this information cleared things up.
Let us know if we can help you with anything else.
Take care!
Discover, manage and share over 82 million tracks, including more than 3.6 million podcast titles, for free, or upgrade to Spotify Premium to access exclusive features for music including improved sound quality and an on-demand, offline, and ad-free music listening experience.
I dont think this is the best that the algorithm can do, why is expected to suggest a song that four times has been suggested and never liked or played outside the playlist? There is 82 millon tracks it will take 52,564 years to suggest every week 30 songs. Thats the main reason im on this platform, to discover new music.
I suposse that this is the main featured playlist on the platform, if i only discover new music based on this and it consistely suggest 50% of songs that i already played im in a loop!
Its just a line of code! "if played then skip", it seems to me that spotify doesnt want me to listen to everything, just the cheapest songs? 🤔
As in your case about half of these songs were played, and from 2018 to this day has never happened that i got 30 extra famous bands that anyone knows.
Hey all,
Thanks for your posts.
Keep in mind that you can improve the recommendations you get from the algorithm in your Discover Weekly / Release Radar, by clicking on the "-" icon > "I don't like this song" ("Hide this song" on mobile) on songs you dislike. Thay way they won't show up in the future in Discover Weekly / Release Radar. You can also block artists this way.
The Community is always here if there's anything else you need assistance with.
Take care!
Hi,
It's me again. I've already reported this issue, as have many users prior to this as a bug here: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Other-Podcasts-Partners-etc/Discover-Bug-Songs-consistently-re-appe...
I also have evidence that shows that disliking songs or artists don't prevent them from showing up in your discover or release radar queues - in fact, several moderators have already said that the feature "only applies to the current week of release radar/discover weekly" making the feature essentially functionless other than to skip artists and songs when they do appear in the queue. Note, it does stop these songs/artists from being played, but we 100% know that it doesn't actually prevent them from showing up in these playlists - THAT is the problem here, because it means that the algorithm is inherently flawed.
Considering how often you get user support requests for this, could we please not pretend like everything is working as intended? If users are here to complain that a feature isn't working as intended, can we please either hear that Spotify has no intentions on fixing it, or that the bug currently has a low priority on the fix list? Because we're hearing that it's not a bug, even though it clearly is.
Sorry to show up again, but this is exactly what I've been reporting, and clearly it's a bug of some sort if the queues are re-generated within 6 months of one another. There's so much music out there that it shouldn't be a problem to find new stuff to put into these queues.
Thanks
