lost computer with all local files

lost computer with all local files

I recently lost my computer with all my local files and had to buy a new one which shows them as unavailable. On my phone however, all the local files are still downloaded. I'm trying to figure out a way to continue adding local files without losing my preexisting ones. Without my old hard drive with all the old local files, what are my options. Thank you!

Hey @Antonchiu,

Thank you for reaching out here in the Community.

If the local files on your new PC show as unavailable and you can't play them, we're afraid that you need to re-sync those songs. Local files are device based which means that the audio files that you want to play within the Desktop app, need to be physically present on your computer's storage in order to be played by Spotify.

We regret to inform you but we cannot guarantee that the local files will keep working if you don't have the originals on your PC.

If you want to know more about how local files work, we'd suggest checking out this FAQ.

Hope this helps. If anything else comes up, the Community will be here for you.
