After a commercial, Spotify forgets what it is supposed to be playing

Solved!

After a commercial, Spotify forgets what it is supposed to be playing

Anytime I try to play a single album or specific playlist, it works fine, until the first Spotify commercial plays. After that, the app reverts to "mass shuffle," and starts playing songs from other albums/playlists and pretty much wherever it wants.

This has been an ongoing problem for many months. I deleted the app because of it back over the summer, and I'm disappointed to see that it's still happening.

Does anyone else have this problem? Any fix coming?

If you are on Spotify Free on iPhone you are limited to shuffle play - it plays a selection of songs from that artist/album plus similar tracks. To get on-demand playback on iPhone you need to have Premium. Incidentally this only applies if you use the iOS version on iPhone, the iPad version does not have this limitation (tablets are considered differently than mobile phones according to the licenses Spotify has with the labels).

Hey @Reflect

Just to clarify, shuffle-only is part of our free service on mobile. Have you checked out Premium? With it you can listen totally on-demand on all devices, in high quality and offline.

If you haven't had a subscription before, grab 30 days of Premium free here. Please let us know if you have further questions.

Not entirely sure what my username is. Should be the same as this one but I use Facebook to log in so I never see it.
U.S. states

This happens on the iOS version of spotify. It happens in the current version and has happened for months.

It happens regardless of the network I'm on. Wifi or no wifi.

It happens after any commercial. Not that I pay attention to the commercials, but it's never not happened. It happens literally every time I'm trying to play music. It's the reason I hardly use the app.

Thanks for the info @Reflect! I'll pass this over to the team right now! 🙂

Hey @Reflect

Thanks for reaching out.

Just to check a few troubleshooting steps, could you try a clean reinstall of the app here? (make sure to remove any cache data too) Steps on how to do this can be found here!

If you could let me know how this goes, that would be pretty awesome 🙂

Thanks

Uhhh... it only happens on the mobile iPhone app though. And I'd already uninstalled the app over the fall. I just re-downloaded the app about a week ago, for the first time since like September.

Thanks guys (I wish I could reply to multiple posts...). That makes sense, though I feel like the iPhone app could make that limitation clearer. It lets me go pick an album out to play even though I'll never be able to play it.

Anyway, thanks for the help.
