Current state of ipod touch synchronization?

Dear all,

a few days ago I read that Spotify supports iPod synchronization and gave it a whirl. After a couple of frustrating attempts, I finally learned that my iPod nano actually only supports local mp3s and not Spotify songs made available offline.

Now I'm pondering whether to spend roughly 200 bucks to purchase an iPod touch so I can finally listen to Spotify playlists that are available offline. In order to avoid wasting that kind of money, I'd like a definitive answer to this question:

Can I play Spotify songs that are available offline on an 5th generation iPod touch without having mobile data capability, provided I download them at home?

I tried browsing the forums and read the FAQs as to this point, but I find the latter one to be rather vague (hence my first frustations with the nano) and the former didn't leave me with a definitive answer.

So... help? Pretty please? Thanks a bunch!

After Matt's reply I decided to take the plunge and got myself a shiny new iPod. Turns out he's right, the whole thing is working beautifully. My fitness music just got bumped to a new level. Nice!
