Extreme heat and battery drain after latest update

Extreme heat and battery drain after latest update

iPhone SE, latest iOS, latest app, nothing else running. Happens after the latest update!

I’m also noticing this very recently.

Me too.  +2 devices
Mine are iOS 10.3, latest version of Spotify.

Experiencing Battery Drain issues as well, only app I'm having battery issues with. I have the iPhone 7 Plus with latest iOS update + latest version of Spotify app.

I started setting my phone to Low Power Mode when I come into work, I also started to log times and battery percentages. Yesterday I was streaming from 9:30 to 1:30 and I only lost 10% of battery while streaming the entire time. However, I took my lunch break, when I came back and went back to streaming I lost 12% AN HOUR for the last 3 hours (still on Low Power Mode as well). Other days are also showing a faster battery drain during the second half of the day as opposed to the first. Very odd that battery is draining faster in the second half of the day as opposed to draining at the same rate throughout the entire day while performing the same functions.

Does it get warm as well? Spotify seems to be ignoring this issue even though its a hue problem for many... it really urks me that I have paid for a service for 4 years and cant get any help.

Today, I didn't use Spotify at all.  I did everything else normal - reading news, reading reddit, etc.  7:45pm and I'm at 64% battery remaining.  The day before, I had to charge my phone at 4pm because it was almost dead.

Yep yep, same here. iPhone SE, everything's updated. Uninstalled, reinstalled, restarted, all the normal stuff. Please fix. Pretty please.

Hi @dmitri_t,

I hate to see that happening to you as well. Many other people are facing the same issue even with newer models. I think it might just be a bug that is causing that and it should be fixed in the next update.

In the mean time, you could try to reset your phone through iTunes, it will do a miracle to your device by removing all the junk and stuff being added up in the OS that would make it fail and make issues like this one pop up more often.

Another tip I would give is to close some apps in background that you aren't using but are just staying there. I know Apple says the opposite but when you aren't going to use them right away or the next few hours I don't see nothing good coming from keeping them open in the background. Limit the background app refresh because I am sure you don't need all the apps that support that to be constantly being refreshed in the background except for the ones you really need to.

Part of the big problem is also iOS 11, which boy was it buggiest one Apple ever released.

However as I mentioned above, the next update of Spotify should fix this.

Hope it helped, if it did mark it as a solution and drop a like!

Cheers!

No way in "the opposite of heaven" am I going to completely reset my iPhone due to a big in Spotify's app. Even with backups. That is not a solution.

Edited due to Spootify thinking "he'll" is a bad word.

It might not help dude but since you never reset you cool phone it won’t be too cool after a while since all the junk you put on to the phone ans OS will crank it up and cause issues like this one. It is not about resetting it only for Spotify.

iOS is amazing at clearing junk, the system is optimized for it, reinstalling a whole OS for an app should never be a fix.

It is but not perfect. My iOS 11.3.1 takes a whopping 7GB for nothing. It really does. Because we use it everyday, apps keep adding things up and it gets really "nasty".

Besides, I have rarely seen iOS do the chores.

I can understand that but still this is clearly a bug in iOS I have restored my phone two times in the last two weeks on two different phones.

Problem is growing. Yet spotify wont even acknowledge it, thats a big F you to the users....

iOS is the buggiest thing in the world this year. Bugs keep coming after every update.

And this nightmare won't end anytime soon. Hopefully iOS 12 will make a difference. I will install it asap even though it is a BETA. iOS 11 seems pretty much like a BETA with all the bugs that sorround it.

It probably is but it's not only Spotify here in this mess.

As stated earlier, for me it most definitely is Spotify and not iOS.  I'm on iOS 10.3 and only change was to Spotify app update recently.

And resetting a entire phone over this isn't worth it.  I'd rather save my money and stop using Spotify than have to deal with redoing all the security stuff on my phone.  Authenticator apps (multiple ones) for work, work apps and redoing their logins with complex passwords, the list goes on that a phone reset isn't a viable answer to a clearly single application problem (cough Spotify cough).

Hi,

Yes it might be Spotify in your case because of all the changes that have been made recently may have caused that, just like iOS 11 leap from iOS 10.

Yes I agree with you on setting things up but don't be dramatic. I have to set up 40-50 apps, plus the emails, passwords and all the security stuff. I hope you know backups exist and that Apple Ecosystem offers you Keychain that will remember all your passwords for you. I personally don't use either of them for different reasons. As I explaine above the OS does get clogged if you never reset your phone.

Have a nice weekend!

Still nothing on this.... Thanks spotify.

Yep, still having this problem. Apparently continued operation at higher temperarures reduces the life of your battery. Maybe when our phones melt or our batteries no longer charge due to a Spotify bug they took too long to fix, Spotify could send us all new iPhones? 🙂
