My Question or Issue

My spotify on ipad suddenly changed to what seems like the mobile version. Before this change, it had the normal desktop-like web layout which is way more efficient. (can quickly add songs to playlists, can view other playlists). however one day my spotify web browser suddenly changed to the mobile version and im unable to view my library (i am not allowed to download spotify on this ipad as well) so my only way is to use the web browser. i have a hardware keyboard as well

how do i switch it back to the desktop layout?

Hey @taylorsmom,

Thanks for reaching out! 🙂
Take look at the browser's menu. It should contain an option stating something similar to 'Desktop site'.
Hope this helps!

how do i get to the browser menu? the mobile web version on the ipad is really limited 😭

Hi there @taylorsmom,

Thanks for your reply.

It depends on the browser you're using. If you're using Safari, open the Web Player, locate the 'aA' icon in the top corner near the address bar, and choose “Request Desktop Website” from the dropdown menu.

If you're using Google Chrome, just open the Web Player, go to the three-dot menu on the top right, and select "Desktop site".

If you're using a different browser, try looking for the option in Settings.

Thanks for helpful workaround. Safari still opening in mobile view for each use requiring use of ‘aA’. Is there a way to default to open in desktop view. Safari settings set to request desktop view for all sites. Shortcuts saved from desktop view also open in mobile view. Is there perhaps now a preferred url for desktop view?

Hi there @7778,

Thanks for keeping in touch.

If you're using the Web Player from a mobile device or maybe a tablet, your browser will open the web page designed for mobile by default. As far as I know, there isn't a way to change that permanently. You can change the view manually with the steps we sent before.

However, thanks for the feedback; we appreciate it! We always aim to improve, so we’ll get this passed on to the right team.

In my case, up until a short time ago Spotify web player opened in desktop
view on iPad, and usefully did so even via an added home screen icon. Now
it defaults to mobile view as discussed, and a home screen icon created
from desktop view opens *in a mobile view without the option to switch* that's
available in an open browser page per the workaround.

Kind rgds
Matt

Hey Susan, there is no option for “Aa” on my iOS iPad and no option for desktop browser, I’m on school IPad and is there anyway You could get Spotify team to change it back to web browser tab I feel like me and many others is unable to access Spotify in many ways now to those who only have IPads and can’t simply download it because of School blocked apps.

Hi! I've been using Spotify free for past few years. Didn't really need any premium features because I mainly use Spotify on browser on notebook and ipad. For past three years I didn't have any problem with iPad browser - it worked just like notebook. With ads but with unlimited skips. But now out of nowhere ipad browser version looks completely different, is limited and doesn't really work. I don't want the app, cause it didn't work as good as browser version for me. Is this some new update (as limiting the lyrics was) to make people pay for premium or is it just some temporary problem?
