Latest update 7.8.0 draining battery on iPhone 6 running iOS 10.2.1

Latest update 7.8.0 draining battery on iPhone 6 running iOS 10.2.1

I updated to Spotify version 7.8.0 yesterday and now it is massively draining my battery life while running in the background with the screen off.  I use Spotify every day and can normally only need to charge it if i've been running other apps as well and then only after 8 hours of use (and the phone never gets hot).  This has sucked the life out of my phone in 4 hours and the phone is REALLY hot - and Spotify is the only app running.  I can run Spotify on my computer instead, but that's not the point.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Same problem

Same problem here! Would really appreciate a solution soon, as this means the app (and thus the entire service Spotify is offering) is not very useful to me any longer...

iPhone 6s, using standard apple headphones, having closed all other apps fully, tried restarting several times

Seeing the same thing on my 6s Plus. This latest update is really taking a toll on my battery.

I'm having the same problem with my iPhone 7.  All other apps were fully closed, Spoitfy was the only thing running and my battery drained 40% in a couple hours.

I have the exact same thing. It's really starting to irritate me now as I'm paying for something I can't really use as need the phone to stay alive over listening to music.

I am experiencing the same issue on the Iphone 7 Plus and the only logical thing I can think of that is causing this is the "Auto Play" function that they just added. I disabled it and seeing if that helps

Same problem here too...

Update: I have tried using Spotify for the past 3 days with the auto play function off and I have had drastic improvements in battery life. Coincidence?

I did the same and it improved the situation (although drain was still accelerated). The 7.9 update this morning appears to have fixed the drain issue.

The 7.9 update was working fine for the first half of the day but in the past hour the app has eaten about 40% battery. Looks like the issue is not resolved with this version....

I would recommend those still having issues to turn off the Autoplay feature in Your Library > Settings > Playback. That function seems to be at least partially responsible.

One additional feature that I disabled is the "Behind the lyrics" under playback settings. I just discovered this feature today which is pulling unnecessary data. I turned off background app refresh as well.

I've updated to 7.9 and turned off Autoplay and Behind the Lyrics as suggested. Will see how that goes. Thanks everyone for your suggestions so far.

Still draining massively for me, even with version 7.9 and auto-play turned off.

If they don't fix this, I don't have this issue with apple music. They're also priced at what Spotify is... The sound quality seems better too.

You can also get it for free for three months.

It's better than it was, but still using ridiculous battery life and gets hot after 3-4 hours of play.

Same issue here, iPhone 7plus.  I noticed my phone getting really hot, and looked at battery stats and Spotify is the cause for battery drain and my phone being on fire.  If you kill the app and start again, temp fix and works fine the rest of the day it seems.  This needs to be fixed my Spotify ASAP!

Try to disable your wifi and bluetooth for a while and see what happens. Also going to your iOS settings, Spotify and disabling background refresh can work.

I have noticed this many times in the past couple weeks as well.

IPhone 7plus 64GB IOS 10.2.1

Spotify 8.1.0.623 Playlists downloaded. Background App Refresh (off), autoplay (off), behind the lyrics (off)

Bose Soundlink mini II

Steps to recreate.

Launch Spotify, turn on Bose (previously paired), play music.... battery drain as expected. 0% drain in 5-10 minutes

Turn off Bose, do NOTHING to spotify on IPhone (leave it launched and where it is).

Wait at least 10-20 minutes

Turn back on Bose, once it connects, press play on spotify from lock screen. Notice in 5 minutes or less phone is very hot and battery % has already dropped several % in 5 minutes.

To fix:

Unload Spotify, turn off Bose, wait until phone cools down, relaunch spotify, turn on Bose, wait for connect and press play from lock screen. Battery drain 0% in over 10 minutes.

This was not happening prior to a couple weeks ago.

I hope this is fixed soon. Becoming very frustrating.

Same Problem, I have even updated the app and my Iphone 7+. It still gets very Hot and massive battery drain
