[Liked Songs] Shuffle button resets when switching back to liked songs

[Liked Songs] Shuffle button resets when switching back to liked songs

When I have shuffle toggled on in Liked songs, then switch to another playlist, then switch back to liked songs, shuffle will be toggled off. This only occurs when I control playback from my Spotify app on iOS. I tested on desktop version, and this issue doesn't occur.

Example problem flow: start in liked songs (shuffle on) --> switch to Playlist B (shuffle on) --> switch back to liked songs (shuffle off now).

Device version: 8.9.12.541

This is very annoying 😞

I'm having the same issue, also on iOS. The issue seems to be any time I exit the liked songs playlist, when I return to the playlist it resets to shuffle off. I verified it was upon returning to the playlist as I had the desktop client opened, and when I opened up my liked songs on my phone it reset it both on the app and the desktop to not shuffled. The issue also occurs when I set it as shuffled on desktop and open on my phone, they both get reset.

The issue does not persist on smart shuffle, however that as the issue of the queued songs always being the same so I cant even use that sadly atm.

Device Version: 8.9.12.541
iPhone 11, iOS 17.2.1

I’m having this problem too and just want it fixed. I always keep shuffle on but the past two weeks it will turn itself off on my iPhone and in the car in Apple play. I turn it on, but every time I open the app again it’s turned off and it’s driving me crazy. I tried restarting my phone but no luck. It’s not encouraging that I had to dig through multiple menus to find the “answer” to submitting this as an issue is to just post about it on a glorified message board. That doesn’t even display properly on my phone.  And I can’t se what I’m typing because of these stupid menus covering the text box.

Using version 8.9.12.541

on iOS and apple CarPlay.

Hi there folks,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community.

First up, we'll need to gather some info in case we have to report the situation:

  • Make, model, and exact OS version on the device you're experiencing this with.
  • What troubleshooting steps have you tried to fix the issue (e.g., a reinstallation, a soft reset, a different account)?
  • Did you notice if this started to happen after a specific event such as an OS update?

Additionally, it'd be really helpful if one of you could send a video recording of this behavior. You can attach it in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public.

We'll be here.

Each time I open the app the 'liked songs' playlist is in 'unshuffled mode' and I have to reclick the shuffle button. Previously the playlist "saved" the preference and kept the shuffling when I closed the app. Other playlists seem to "save" the preference as the liked songs playlist did previously

Any updates? This issue is still occurring.

Hey there,

Thanks for posting in the thread! This is still being looked in to by our teams.

@supremephoenix - would you mind providing the info requested by @Susan_GP earlier in the thread? This will help us investigate the issue further.

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Hi! I find that even though I select the shuffle option in liked songs, the setting resets whenever I return to the spotify app later. I am not sure if the library was designed to not shuffle automatically but it would be great to be able to save the settings that we used last for playing liked songs

Hey there @azetty

Thanks for getting in touch about this here in the Community.

If you're still experiencing this, could you provide us with the info @Susan_GP asked for previously? We'll pass it on to the right team to look into it.

We'll be on the lookout.

My Question or Issue

When I try to play my Liked Songs (this only happens with Liked Songs), shuffle is disabled every time. I can enable shuffle while listening to my Liked Songs, but it often does not work and also disables itself after I listen to another playlist and return to listening to Liked Songs. This does not happen on my iPhone, where if I enable shuffle on my Liked Songs, it does not disable itself after listening to another playlist. I want to keep shuffle enabled after I stop listening to one playlist and listen to another so that I don't need to enable it every time

Hey @fdshfg,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

This is odd behavior. The app should remember if perhaps you've activated shuffle on a playlist (your Liked Songs playlist included). So, in this case, you can try performing a clean reinstall. By doing that the app can be up-to-date and you can make sure some damaged cache is not leading to this inconvenience. You can see the steps for a clean reinstall here.

If the above doesn't do the trick, we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

  • The exact Spotify version you're running on your device.
  • Did you notice if this started to happen after a specific event, such as an OS update?
  • Does this happen if you open a different account on the desktop app? You can ask for the account of a relative or a friend to open it on your computer and check.

Keep us in the loop!

I have reinstalled Spotify and tried downloading Spotify directly from the Spotify website (I had Spotify installed from Microsoft Store previously) and this did not solve the problem. It has fixed the issue where clicking "shuffle" didn't shuffle the playlist, but does not solve the larger issue of Liked Songs not being shuffled automatically.

The problem has continued, though the playlist appears to be shuffled in the player bar at the bottom. If I play Liked Songs from the home screen, the shuffle icon seems to be enabled, although really it isn't and does nothing when clicked.

Hey @fdshfg

Thanks for getting back to us.

Could you send us the info @AlejaR asked for previously? We'll take a closer look.

We'll be waiting for your reply.
