Local Files on iPhone do not display album cover

Local Files on iPhone do not display album cover

iOS 16.6.1

I'm adding onto the list of ongoing issues with displaying album covers on local files for which I spent a few hours debugging to no avail.

Problem: Album cover does not display in Local Files on iPhone, but the album cover displays on Spotify for Mac. I have edited the metadata with both Apple Music and mp3tag to include the album art. The album art is displayed on Spotify and Apple Music on Mac, but not on iPhone.

Debugging Steps:

Used mp3tag and Apple Music to add in the album art into the metadata. Wanted to make sure the metadata was being correctly changed.

Used different image sizes (one 640 x 640, one 740 x 740).

Used different file formats (JPEG, PNG).

Cleared cache

Reinstalled the app

Played music with Flacbox on iPhone. The album cover displays in Flacbox on iPhone, so the issue isn't in transferring the file from my Mac to the iPhone. This also shows that the metadata is properly implemented in the file.

In summary, there is an issue with displaying album/song art exclusively on the iOS version of the Spotify app. The album art displays fine on a different music playing app on iPhone, on Spotify for Mac, and on Apple Music.

Hey @beared,

Thanks for posting in the Community.

Could you try a 300x300 version of the album art?

Does this happen to any local files you upload or to specific ones? If you find one working, try mimicking it's metadata.

Does this happen with a different account and a different iPhone?

Keep us posted.

Cheers!
