Local files on windows pc not syncing to iPhone

Local files on windows pc not syncing to iPhone

So I’ve been trying to get two tracks that aren’t on Spotify into my playlist on iPhone and I was able to download them and successfully play them but only on pc and I have already tried soft uninstalling and allowing Spotify through Windows defender but still nothing.

Hey @Mark_777 ,

Thanks for posting in the Community.

On this page you can find a thorough guide on how to play Local Files on your mobile device. Just keep in mind that syncing the files between devices is not possible anymore. The files should be physically present on the device you want to play them on.

Let us know how that went,

Cheers!

Hi Dian

I too have this problem - could you explain the difference between "syncing the files between devices" (which is not possible any more, I understand) and "files being physically present on the device you want to play them on"??

I ask because I believe I have done this - made tracks / files physically present on my Android device -  but I have a (very recent) problem actually playing local files on it.

Local files exist on on my primary Windows desktop version of Spotify and have always worked when i want to listen to them on my Android device. I add them to a playlist on my main Windows device, and (after spending time on the same WiFi network as the Windows device) they appear on my Android device, too.  I am assuming that the Windows machine copies them over. The tracks in question belong to a playlist that is ticked as "download" on the Android device - which I understood to physically copy the files to a Spotify folder on the Android device.

Recently they stopped being playable, but on my Android device ONLY. They will play on the Windows PC, and are listed but "greyed out" on my Android device. When I try to play them on my Android device, I get a message saying "Spotify can't play this right now - this track isn't available on your device".  But, it will also default to play through my PC, when I try to select it on the Android.

i have deleted and reinstalled Spotify from my Android today, but to no avail.

Reading the page you linked to above, am I right in thinking that I would need to import the actual raw MP3 files onto my Android device?

Thanks

Hi there @richardpeck1

Thanks for reaching out. Syncing files from PC to mobile using the same Wi-Fi network was the old method of having local files, but as @Dian mentioned, this is no longer how it works. Now you need to have the files on the Android device itself. So yes, try to transfer your files to the phone via USB and add the folders as shown in the aforementioned article. Then it should work.

Hope this clears things up.
