Local files won't play on iPhone 11

Local files won't play on iPhone 11

Local files won't play on my phone after moving to iPhone 11. They were working fine on my old phone (iPhone 6) although sometimes I had to kickstart the process by playing a local file on my laptop and then switching the playback device to the phone. It could take a sec but it worked in the end. Unfortunately, nothing I have done on this new device has worked so far. I have already consulted the usual given response: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Android/Play-quot-local-files-quot-on-my-mobile-device/m-p/4787441/... and have gone through every action on the list:

 

  • playlist toggled to 'download' (on both devices
  • logged out of my account and back in (both devices)
  • checked that I'm logged into the same account (I only have 1)
  • neither device is set to 'offline'
  • both devices are connected to same wifi network
  • tried connecting laptop to phone hotspot as well
  • all files are .mp3s which is a supported format and play fine on laptop version of Spotify
  • checked I have a premium subscription, it is up to date and valid (can download other tracks etc)
  • checked I have plenty of storage on my phone (over 20GB available)
  • have latest version of Spotify installed on both devices
  • have both my phone and macbook systems up to date
  • not over the limit of local file songs (only 28)
  • turned web shield, firewall and VPN off to attempt transfer

 

None of the above has worked. Local files play fine on my macbook but when I try to play them on iphone they won't play. I have also tried to start playing them on laptop then switch to the iPhone using the 'connect to a device' feature but as soon as I do the song stops playing.

 

It's getting mighty frustrating.

I see that you already went through a lot of good troubleshooting, but there are a few more things we can suggest. Firstly, have a look here and follow the recommended steps.

 

If that doesn't do the trick, make sure you have the Bonjour protocol enabled on both your devises and check if your router supports it.
