Not liked songs showing up as liked songs, and vice versa

Not liked songs showing up as liked songs, and vice versa

Plan: Premium

Country: Canada

Device: Tested on both iPhone 12 and iPhone 8 Plus (affects both)

Operating System: Both iOS 15 (but saw the problem even before OS update)

My Question or Issue

I have been experiencing a very annoying bug for quite some time now, across both my iPhone 12 and iPhone 8 devices.

The issue:

Sometimes songs that are not liked are showing up as liked. Also, songs that are liked are sometimes showing up as not liked.

I find this a very concerning bug because I am afraid that I may accidentally think a new song I am enjoying is liked already, but really it's not and I may never see it again. Or, a song I have already liked shows up as not liked and when I clicked liked in this scenario, it actually UNLIKES the song but it shows as it being liked. Very frustrating bug, since I am not sure how many songs I've accidentally unliked now and how many songs I missed liking.

I've noticed I can reproduced the bug in 2 ways:

Scenario 1:

Step 1: Play a list of songs (it can be any list, release radar, an album, etc) that has some liked and unliked songs. OR, you can play a list of songs that is all not liked yet (like release radar).

Step 2: When you're playing a song that has not been liked yet, wait till the song is midway and like the song.

Step 3: Let the song naturally finish, or scroll to the last couple of seconds so the song finishes and naturally transitions to the next song in the list/queue.

Step 4: Take note now, that the next song will appear as liked even if it is not a liked song. Also, notice that if you keep pressing next song, ALL song afterwards show as liked until you either go back or restart the app.

Scenario 2:

Same as scenario 1, but replace Step 2 with: Start Spotify with a song that is already liked. Step 1, 3, and 4 remains the same.

The converse of this bug also is present. To reproduce follow the same steps but do everything in the opposite manner. For Step 1, find a list of songs that you have the majority of liked. Step 2, do the same but unlike a liked song midway instead. Step 3, stays the same. Step 4, notice that all your next songs appear NOT LIKED even if they're liked. And worst of all, if you click like, it will really be unliking that song but showing it as liking it.

Attached you can see this bug in action.

EDIT:

Could not attached the screen recordings because unsupported file type (.mov) and file sizes too large.

Hi there @maisonjay,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and for the detailed information.

We recommend that you perform a clean reinstall of the app. This will make sure there's no old cache files causing this.

If that doesn't do the trick, can you let us know if this occurs while using one specific device or multiple device, and also which device/devices this occurs on so that we can have a closer look into this.

Once again, thanks for the detailed information!

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Take care!
