Offline Song Limit per Device

I have a large playlist (almost 5,000 songs) but limited iPhone memory. When I sync my playlist, it stops somewhere around 2,800 songs due to out of memory. Fair enough.

But when I then use my iPhone various other apps complain about out of storage space on the phone. 

It would be great if there was a way to limit the number of songs downloaded, or ideally the memory used by Spotify, so that I could leave some space for other apps. Now the phone is limited in function when it is competely full of songs.

And no, I do not want to split my playlist into several.
