Phone volume keeps changing to Desktop App volume even with app closed

Phone volume keeps changing to Desktop App volume even with app closed

I have an iPhone XS Max and Window 10 computer using spotify, and this used to work properly, but for maybe the past couple weeks, regardless of if the app is open on the phone or not, the phone volume will randomly increase to 100% to match the spotify app on desktop.

After force killing the app on the phone, it works properly for a little while, I can lower volume, etc. but then randomly the phone volume will just increase to 100% again. This only happens while playing spotify on my computer.

Hey there @marcmicalizzi

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community, and welcome 🙂

We'd first recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app on both devices. This is often an overlooked step, but it can be helpful to get rid of any corrupted files that might be causing issues.

If this doesn't do the trick, could you send over a video where we can take a better look at what's happening? You can send a link to it or attach it using the Insert Video option in the post editor.

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

I'll give that a try, although I don't see how corrupted files would cause the volume on the phone to be changed even when the app is closed, as the app is not running and it has to be some form of background process and is very intentional action, not a crash.

Also, it would be very difficult to get a video of it, as it occurs at random, and it's not tenable to video record the screen at all times in hopes of catching when it occurs.

Thanks

Hey @marcmicalizzi

Thanks for getting back to us.

Is the same thing happening when you're logged in to a different account using your devices?

We'd also recommend restarting your phone just to see if you notice anything new.

Keep us posted.

This is happening for me as well. Completely new install, restarts, etc. This is clearly a bug in your software. Please fix it. Your desktop app should NEVER be able to affect my phone when spotify isn't running on it.

Yes, it never stopped doing it for me either. I just put my phone on silent as a solution.

Hey folks,

Yeah, this has been happening to me for a while ever since I got my new iPhone. It's so frustrating to play a video on my phone thinking the volume is low to then have the sound blasting on full volume because I'm using Spotify on my computer and it changed the volume. I am currently on the iPhone 12 Pro running iOS 15.1.1. The version of Spotify I'm running currently is version 8.6.96.591.

I've tried many steps to try and combat this but none seem to work. Including closing the app and closing it in the background but it still somehow changes the volume even when Spotify is not running in the background. Another method I tried was going into the device setting in Spotify and disabling the option to control the music on my lock screen while playing on another device. And I even tried deleting and downloading the app again on my phone and on my computer. None of these seem to properly work.

This was not a problem before on my old iPhone 6S so I don't know why it is a problem now.

Hey there folks,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community.

Can you confirm that you followed the steps that's provided in this article? There's some more steps to help thoroughly uninstall the app from your device, so if you haven't, we'd highly suggest it since the steps will make sure there's no old cache files causing this.

If that doesn't do the trick we can recommend that you check the phone's battery settings and make sure that Spotify is set as an exception if you're using the battery optimization option.

We'll keep an eye out for your replies.

Take care!

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

Yeah, I have tried clean uninstalling the app multiple times and it is still a problem. Still as annoying and frustrating as ever.

Hey @Symphoria

Thanks for your reply.

Could you let us know if after running a clean reinstall of the app the issue still persists even with the screen locked and while Spotify is backgrounded?

On another note, we suggest that you check if the OS of your phone has any pending updates.

We'll be waiting for your reply.
