Problems with Alpine IDA-X305S

Hi,
I have just brought an Alpine IDA X-305S media receiver for my car to connect my iPhone 5s running Spotify (which I am a premium paid member).

When I connect the iPhone via USB I get 'No Song' displayed and there is no playback.

My girlfriend has exactly the same iPhone and can play spotify (she currently has the free version).

Is there a way to make this work? It seems strange that the free version works but the paid version does not?!

Are you both using the same iOS and Spotify versions?

Both of us use Spotify 0.9.3.
I use iOS 7.0.5 whereas my girlfriend is on iOS 7.0.4
