Serious Data Usage

Serious Data Usage

I sync playlists when connected to wifi, so all music I listen to while on the go is synced locally. I do this for when I commute on the subway to and from work.

This has been my routine for years now with Spotify with no issues. Yesterday, Spotify started to use massive amounts of my cellular data.

It started with 1.6gb in the morning, which I couldn't initially pinpoint to Spotify. After resetting my data usage information on my iPhone, I received a message later that evening that I used my data limits when Spotify had used an additional 3gb of data. (4.6 gb total!)

For the moment I have completely shut down Spotify from having access to cellular data. I have absolutely no doubt that the music I listened to was already synced locally. What could be the cause of this, and how is it possible for me to use such an extremely high amount of data in the span of about 2-3 hours (all other hours my phone sits unused and connected to wifi)?

Hey @Arcticc! Help's at hand.

To check, have you always had Mobile Data disabled in your iOS settings for Spotify? Do you still have it disabled now?

We'd also like to check:

  • What mobile device you're using
  • What version of iOS it's running
  • What app version it's running
  • A timeframe for when the high data usage occurred
  • What type of connection you had when the high data usage was occurring

If you could let us know that info, and keep us informed of how your Mobile Data settings look, we'll take a further look.

Thanks!
