My Question or Issue

I've shared Spotify links with friends and family for years, but now, instead of getting a play button and album art within iMessage, I just get a "Web Player" block, and no preview anymore.

I've tried: turning iMessage on and off, rebooting my phone, signing in and out of Spotify.

Hey there @Reekoh

Thanks for getting in touch about this here in the Community.

Just to confirm, if you click on "Web player", does the song open? We'd also like to know if the same happens when you share songs with your friends or if it only happens when they share songs with you.

On another note, could you check if the same happens using a different device?

We'll be on the lookout.

Having a similar issue but it shows the song name but not doesn’t have the thimbnail.

Hey @HouseHotel,

Thank you for your reply in this thread.

Based on what you've described you're able to share a song and open it, but you're missing the part with the art and play button. Is that correct? Screenshot for visibility below.

If so, we'd suggest logging out and then logging back in two times in a row on your phone. It sounds a bit odd, but it forces a sync between the account and your device.

If the issue persists, check for a pending update for your Spotify App and for a software update on your device. Make sure that you have the latest version of Spotify and iOS installed on your phone as updating usually fixes errors that occur temporary.

If the above is not the case - feel free to share more details, so we can get a better understanding and advise you further.

Hope this helps 🙂

Correct, no cover art or play button.  I followed your suggestion and logged out and back in to Spotify, and made sure I updated the app and iOS, but it still persists.

Hey there @Reekoh

Thanks for getting back to us.

Could you let us know the exact Spotify version of your iPhone?

Also, would you mind sending us the info I requested above? We'll take a closer look.

Ver. 8.8.24.312

Alright so i’ve signed out of spotify, restarted my phone, logged back in, logged back out, logged in again and the issue still persists.  iOS is up to date 16.4.1, Spotify is up to date per the app store: v8.8.26.446.

Please see attached for relevant screenshots.

One thing as suggested by a friend is that I was out of the country recently and I tried to connect to an airline (avianca) wifi and was told it may be due to unsecured network but i’ve since removed the network from my device.

Hey folks,

Thanks for all the info you've sent so far.

Would you mind checking if the Spotify and the iMessage apps are granted all permissions on your phones?

Keep us posted.

I tried to do this as well and nothing happened to far even with all permissions granted. Though this only happens to be every time when update to a new IOS it’s been a recurring issue

Hey @Rekzen97,

Thanks for the info shared.

We'll need to gather some additional info, aside from what you kindly mentioned above :slightly_smiling_face: So, would you mind checking if this is happening in more than one app, e.g., Telegram, WhatsApp, etc.?

On another note, would you mind checking if this is happening on a different mobile device aside from your iPhone? It'd be awesome if you could check. You can ask for the mobile device of a relative or a friend to open your account and check.

Lastly, some users noticed this same inconvenience, so they posted some workarounds here. We'd recommend having a look at it and trying some of the solutions you can find there (the ones posted by @kalepetals and @lowpolybrain).

Following this issue too. iPhone 13PM. All of my friends attachments appear except mine, and I’ve tried everything in this chain.

The same issue is occurring when I share a Spotify song/album. No album preview art, just the song name. iPhone 13 Pro. This didn’t start until updating to iOS 16.4.0 and 16.4.01. My friends that haven’t updated to the iOS are able to share with the Spotify link preview. When I share a song from my MacBook Pro to messages, it shows the preview link so the cause seems to be from the iOS updates.

Hey @Alexayapizza,

Thanks for your reply and for the info shared.

In this case, would you mind sending us the exact Spotify version you're running on the affected device?

On another note, would you mind sending us a couple screenshots of the described behavior? This info will be forwarded to the right team.

I also found that this didn't start until 16.4, and persists through my current 16.5 beta update from Saturday.

Hi Eni- yes all permission’s granted as far as I can find/ tell.

Any other thoughts or ideas? Any one able to look into the unsecured network issue and potentially a bad cert that got stuck somewhere?

Hello @AlejaR,

Spotify Version: 8.8.28

Iphone 13 Pro: iOS 16.4.1

I’ve powered off and powered on phone, uninstalled/reinstalled Spotify, but that does not resolve the issue. Friends that haven’t updated to iOS 16.4 & 16.4.1 are able to share a Spotify link with the album preview art showing, but mine only sends with the title name of the song

This is a friend who has not updated to iOS 16.4 and are on the latest version of Spotify. They can send the link and it show the album preview as where my shares only send the title name, no album preview.

Hey folks,

Thanks for all the info you've sent so far!

We've forwarded it to the team in charge to be looked into. We'll keep you posted as soon as we have any updates to share.

Cheers 🙂
