Spotify on iPhone via USB on Ford Fiesta not working

I'm encountering a problem with playing songs on my Spotify app while my phone is connected through USB into my Ford Fiesta. The problem is that it keeps skipping to the next song after about 1-2 seconds. It's extremely annoying.

Playing music from the Music app on the iPhone works perfectly, so this is definitely not an iPhone issue.

There seem to be a lot of threads about this, but I can't find a working solution anywhere. I already tried this:

- having one song in my Music app and then opening spotify --> still keeps skipping

- connect the phone while a song is playing on Spotify --> the song plays but after it is done it keeps skipping to the next song. This isn't a workable workaround because it is impossible to do this everytime while driving. I need the controls at the wheel.

I have the newest Spotify app installed.

Anyone have a solution for this please??

Same issue here but in a Citroen C4 instead. Changed the USB cable, redownloaded Spotify on the Iphone but songs still tend to skip. No pattern either with which songs are skipped. It tries to play a song but then instantly changes to another, if you open the app after and click on the skipped song it either plays straight away or again will try to skip it but if you're persistant it will play. 

Seems to have happend after Spotify updated around 3 weeks ago so right now i'd probably say it's a software bug on their end.
