Spotify wont ask for microphone permission

Solved!

Spotify wont ask for microphone permission

Premium account running on an iPhone 7+ with iOS 12.1.

I do not know how to access spotify voice. The microphone option in the search bar is missing, so i cannot access through the app. If I go to microphone setttings in the privacy tab on my phone, the option to enable for spotify is missong there too. I have no idea how to get spotify to ask me for mic permissions. Does anybody have a way or a solution?

Thanks!

Hi there @Gettingrobbed,

What @Dian was trying to explain is that the "Hey Spotify" feature for mobile has been deprecated. This is regardless of the fact that the you can still use voice commands to operate Car Thing, since that's how the device itself is designed to work.

The "Hey Spotify" feature was in testing phase, so the developer teams were testing how well it worked and how usable it was on average. This feature is gone, but it will most likely pave the way for something that works better.

Hope this info clears things up 🙂

This is most likely not a problem with spotify. When it asked you to open microphone the first time, if you said no thanks, you cant turn it on from the app anymore. You should go to Settings > Spotify (scroll all the way down) > Microphone and turn it on from there. That is probably the issue.

Hope this helped!

Unfortunatley there is no microphone option there. I've deleted and reinstalled spotify multiple times and it has never asked me for microphone permission.

I have the same issue.  iPhone7 +, IOS 12.1  Also tried the remove and re-add options.

@th360 @user-removed

I think you might need to reinstall the app to fix this problem. I cant think of any other solution. It should ask you again when you reinstall it, otherwise, visiting the apple store is your best bet :).

Have a nice day!

I don't think you are reading what is being written. I have the same problems. I have also deleted and reinstalled the app as the other two have written. Spotify is not showing up in the Settings/Privacy/Microphone section. Long pressing the search option in Spotify does not work. Please give a solution that shows you have actually read the messages.

Again, I think the problem you are having is with your phone not spotify, although it does seem really weird that the microphone option does not show up in the spotify settings. I will let specialists know about this as they are more likely to find out the cause of this issue. Thank you, have a nice day.

After getting in touch with a moderator, I have found out that the microphone option only works for people with Premium inside the US. If your account is not registered in the US, then it is normal for you not to see any microphone option.

Have a nice day!

I am registered for Premium in the US, I have uninstalled Spotify and reinstalled it, I have gone to the Settings>Privacy>Microphone section and Spotify does not appear in there, I have also gone to the Settings>Spotify section and nothing appears in there mentioning a microphone. And, when I reinstalled the app, it didn't ask for permission to have access to the microphone either.

Hello,
When will Spotify Voice will be available in Australia?
I use voice commands a lot on a daily basis. I'm very surprised that it isn't available.

Bump

Bump. What is going on?

Also interested to hear when this will be available in Australia, we have strict laws here in regards to touching your phone while driving so voice commands are pretty important.

Hey everyone,

Thank you for reaching out in the Community!

We're always looking for new ways to improve the product experience and often have different features available across markets due to various factors. Right now Spotify Voice is only available in the US and we can't share any info about when it’ll be available elsewhere.

If this is a feature you'd like to see in your market as well, we recommend having a look in the Idea Exchange, to see if someone else has already made a similar suggestion, and if not post your own. The Community team is actively bringing your feedback to the internal teams at Spotify - check how here.

If you have any questions we're always one reply away 🙂

Cheers!

You are kind of brushing off all of us that know we are Spotify Premium in the US. This option is not available for us either. Pretend there's something we're supposed to do and activate it and tell us the steps please, quit brushing aside saying that it is there when all of us in the US with premium are not finding it

Hi there @kirkmoreno,

Thank you for your reply in this thread.

It should be available for you if you're in the US and if you're account was created there and lastly if you're a Premium user.

First we suggest that you remove any possible corrupt cache by following the steps that's provided in this article.

If that doesn't do the trick, can you have someone log in with their account on your device - such as a friend or a family member to see if the issue persists?

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Take care 🙂

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

I am having the same problem.  The microphone disappeared from the search bar about a week ago.  I am a US premium subscriber.   I tried it with and without a VPN.  I followed the above instructions to clear the storage and cache and to un/reinstall. Still no microphone. I have an android (Motorola). Thank you.

Hey @6793466,

Thanks for the reply.

At Spotify, we’re always working to deliver features that our users love. In order to make way for future innovations, we will be removing the current “Hey Spotify” voice feature within our app. “Hey Spotify” will still be available via Car Thing in the U.S. and users will be able to easily access other voice assistants from our integrated partners on their mobile devices. For more information visit our support pages on this subject.

Hope this clears things a bit,

Cheers!

So you're saying we'll need to buy an $80 car thing for a feature that worked just fine without it?
