Using a secondary (old) device to Spotify Connect-enable my stereo

Solved!

Using a secondary (old) device to Spotify Connect-enable my stereo

Is there any reason why I can't or shouldn't have my old iPhone constantly plugged in to my home HI-FI and use that to play music via Spotify Connect?

(This is instead of buying a new music-streamer-gizmo, and to upgrade from my constant AirPlay battery drain)

I will use my new phone and my iPad to control the dedicated Spotify Connect bridge device (the old iPhone hooked up to the stereo).

Is there something I need to do to keep the dedicated Spotify Connect bridge device being discoverable as a Spotify Connect playback device?

After a period of inactivity, the iPhone will disappear from the Spotify Connect list.

You'll have to reopen the Spotify app on the iPhone every once in a while to keep it from timing out and disappearing from the list.

It is discoverable of course as long as you unlock yoyr phone and open the Spotify app on your old phone (the one with your stereo). Because it can't be connected or open the app automatically.

is there a way to make the app run and be available constantly? Is there an alternative? This is very annoying..

iOS usually will suspend an app in the background when it's not actively being used to save battery life. This is something Apple would have to change.
