some artist or album names in Japanese characters for no reason

some artist or album names in Japanese characters for no reason

My Question or Issue

Sometimes artist or album names are displayed in Japanese characters (katakana). These are NOT Japanese artists in general. I do have a Japanese keyboard installed on my phone, but is nowhere set as default in any settings (neither phone nir spotify app).

I deinstalled and installed the app which did not change the behavior.

Hey @mrmr4711,

Thanks for posting in the Community and thank you for the detailed description.

Does the same behavior occur on a different mobile device with the same account? On that note, how does a different account look like on your current device?

Keep us posted.

Cheers!

The katakana appear both on my iPhone 12 Pro and on my iPad Air (4). There are no Japanese characters in the Mac OS app. On all devices language settings are „as system“ and German is selected. All devices have a Japanese keyboard installed though, which is not set as default.

I have no other account in reach to try right now.

Hey there @mrmr4711

Thanks for your reply.

Could you try logging out and then logging back in to your account on the affected devices twice in a row? We know this sounds odd, but it'll trigger a sync between your account and devices.

If this doesn't do the trick, could you let us know if this started happening after a specific event such as an update?

Additionally, you can try creating a new account here to test this with. This will help us check if the issue is account-related.

Keep us posted on how it goes.

I did logout/login a few times, but no effect.

I also created a new account briefly, and there are Japanese characters again on the iphone spotify app (for this new account)!

Hey @mrmr4711,

Thanks for the reply and the troubleshooting you've tried so far.

Could you try removing the Japanese keyboard from your phone just to check if it makes a difference? Have you at some point set "Japan" or "Japanese" as an option anywhere on your iPhone or in the Spotify app?

Keep us posted.

Cheers!

I have had this problem for about a week as well. No Japanese keyboard on my phone.

Hey @jerg2

Thanks for getting in touch about this and welcome to the Community!

Just to confirm, are you still experiencing this? If so, could you let us know which troubleshooting steps you've already tried? That way we can avoid repeating any steps.

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Hello , I just had the same problem . I searched here for a solution but none of the ones here rlly helped. But I found a solution : I also had my app on German and I also am on iOS , I first switched to the Japanese version of the app in the settings , and then to the English version , then it was fixed.

you probably already found a way to fix it, I am only writing this for the people in the future that have the same problem. 👍

My Question or Issue

Weird glitch that I have been experiencing for month already. One update fixes it, the next Update brings it back:

Band names (not the Text in the App itself though) are Shown in the japanese Alphabet, so The Band Muse would be shown as ミュース, FKA Twigs becomes FKA ツイックand so on.

My iPhone is German, System Language is German, App Store is German…

I do have the Japanese and the Chinese Keyboard installed though.

So I checked App Language AND iPhone Language, both are set to German. Switched to English, Japanese, back to German - Nothing helps. The App will change Language as selected, artist names will still appear in the Japanese Alphabet.

Anyone ever experienced something like this?
