using a separate phone to listen to my account

I ride motorcycles all the time. To use a iPhone on the handlebars is not a good idea as the vibration ruins the camera over time. So, I am trying to use an old iPhone that I no longer have attached to a cellular network, but works great for using a navigation app, as well as listening to music. Recently, the spare phone has been locking up the downloaded music that I have on it. What can be done to allow for this to work flawlessly?

Could you give us more information on what exactly do you mean by "locking"? What are the model and operating system of the old iPhone?

Just to make sure we have sorted this out - you are connecting the old iPhone once at least every 30 days with an internet network, right?

A first step in the troubleshooting would be to perform a clean reinstall and then see if the issue persists. Here is how to do one.
