I have several Spotify widgets embedded into my website. The website is something of an online museum, and the idea is that the user listens to songs as they are reading about them. For this to work as best as it can, it is better the user listens to the song within the browser, rather than it opening up the Spotify app separately, giving the users a more holistic experience.
When I first embedded the widgets, that is precisely what they did - the widget would function as player within my website. You would need to be signed in to Spotify to hear the whole song - but nonetheless, it played within the browser once you did so.
However now it appears that every time I click the play button, it launches the Spotify app separately. Worse still, no matter what track you click on, it launches the playlist from the very first song. So no matter what song the user wants to listen to, they will get the first one. This completely detracts from the experience for my website.
It seems strange that it would work this way, considering the widget is made to appear like a player, complete with a playing progress bar - now this bar is completlely pointless, as nothing within the widget itself shows where you are up to within the track, giving you the option to skip etc.
Has this recently changed and is there any option or the prospect of an option to enable in-browser playing once again? It's very frustrating this has happened as in-browser playing really was perfect for my requirements.
