I have been using LG Tone Pro (HBS760) headphones to listen to music/media at work. I recently upgraded from a Motorola Z Force Droid to Samsung Galaxy Note 8. Before the phone switch, bluetooth controls worked perfectly for Spotify for the headphones, as well as my work and personal vehicles (Nissan Frontier and 2014 Dodge Dart). Since switching phones, the play/pause function for Spotify does not work for any of them. I can still skip songs though. My other streaming apps (Pocket Casts and Tune In Radio) all functions work. I also connected my Moto360 watch to try to work around this issue, but I cannot play/pause from that either. Very inconvenient to pull out the phone to stop the music every time I need to talk to a client.
